The best phone for under 5 thousand! This Motorola has a beautiful display, eSIM, and a capable chipset

When Motorola launched the Edge 50 Fusion model on the Czech market last year, it cost almost 10,000 CZK. It was a mid-range device with fairly solid features, but the price was borderline – for similar money, you could get phones with better performance or better cameras. However, more than a year has passed since then, and the price has dropped to a level where the Edge 50 Fusion starts to make much more sense. According to Heureka.cz, it is now available from 4,695 CZK. And at that price, it’s suddenly a completely different game.

What you get for under five thousand

The Edge 50 Fusion is no flagship model, but on paper, the features look quite decent. Let’s start with the display: a 6.67-inch P-OLED panel with a 144Hz refresh rate and a resolution of 2400 × 1080 pixels. Brightness up to 1600 nits means the phone can handle even strong sunlight.

Also important is the IP68 rating – meaning protection against dust and water. Most competitors at this price offer a maximum of IP54, which is only minimal splash protection against water. IP68 means you can safely submerge the phone in water for up to half an hour at a depth of 1.5 meters, which is a completely different league.

The camera consists of two sensors: a 50Mpx main sensor with optical stabilization and a 13Mpx wide-angle sensor. The front camera has 32 megapixels. It can record video in 4K resolution and also features an LED flash. Sound is provided by a hybrid stereo setup, which is rather rare in this price category, as many competitors only have one speaker.

The battery has a capacity of 5000 mAh and supports 68W fast charging. This is again above average – most phones in this price segment offer a maximum of 33W, often even just 18W.

Snapdragon 7s Gen 2: Is it enough?

The biggest compromise of the Edge 50 Fusion was the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 processor. It’s certainly not a performance marvel – in benchmarks, it lags behind top-tier chips like the Snapdragon 8 Gen series or MediaTek Dimensity 9000, which can be found in phones around 10 thousand CZK. But beware: at this price, you won’t find anything better anyway.

For under 5 thousand CZK, competitors mostly offer phones with Snapdragon 6xx series chips, which are significantly weaker. Or if you find a model with Dimensity 7300, it will have other compromises – such as only IP54 protection, slower charging, a weaker camera, or a mono speaker.

The Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 is sufficient for everyday use – social media, web browsing, casual games like Call of Duty Mobile or PUBG at medium settings.

Conclusion: hard to find better for under five thousand

The Motorola Edge 50 Fusion is not a perfect phone – the processor could be faster, it lacks a microSD slot, and HDR support for the display. But for 4,695 CZK, you get a mobile with IP68 protection, a 144Hz OLED display, 68W charging, stereo speakers, and a solid camera. And also eSIM. You simply won’t find all of this in one package at this price elsewhere.

When the Edge 50 Fusion was selling for ten thousand, it was an average phone with an average price. Now, for under five thousand, it’s suddenly one of the best choices in the lower mid-range. If you’re looking for a durable, fast-charging, and good-looking phone, and performance isn’t your top priority, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a better price-to-performance ratio.
