While some players still think that mobile The Division is just a distant dream, Ubisoft already launched a closed beta of The Division Resurgence in September. What’s more – thanks to an APK file leak, practically anyone with an Android device can try it out. All it takes is a little patience and a VPN. Czech player Tomáš Černoch, who shared his discovery on Facebook, found out how to do it.

Full-fledged game, not streaming

Before we dive into how to access the beta, let’s clarify one crucial thing. The Division Resurgence is not a streamed game via GeForce Now or other cloud services. It’s a complete mobile title running directly on your phone, designed from the ground up for touch controls. Ubisoft took the proven formula from PC and consoles and reworked it to function on smaller screens.

The game returns to the post-apocalyptic New York from the first installment of the series. You play as first-wave Strategic Homeland Division agents trying to maintain order amidst the chaos caused by a viral epidemic. Missions are shorter than in the original games – expect 10-15 minutes per action, which is ideal for playing on a tram or during a break.

How to access the beta version

Officially, the beta is only available to selected players in certain regions. Unofficially, however, you can download it via an APK file, which is freely available on the internet. According to Tomáš Černoch, who successfully got the game running, you will need:

1. A VPN application – recommends VPN Lat (free on Google Play)
2. Set VPN to Romania – the beta officially runs in this country
3. Download the APK file – version 1.8877.0.0 from APKVision or similar sites

Beware, this is a beta version, so you may encounter bugs and shortcomings. It’s also possible that Ubisoft might block your account if they discover you’re playing from an unauthorized region. However, the risk is minimal – it’s not about hacking or cracking, just bypassing geographical restrictions.

What the mobile Division offers

The Division Resurgence retains core gameplay mechanics including the cover system, looting, and crafting. Controls have been completely redesigned for touchscreens – instead of a keyboard and mouse, you have virtual joysticks and buttons. The UI is more compact but clear. A minimap in the corner of the screen helps with orientation in the sprawling New York.

The game offers both PvE missions within the campaign and PvP battles in the Dark Zone. Each class has its own skill tree and unique abilities – you can be an offensive vanguard or a supportive medic. The specialization system is simplified compared to the PC version, but still deep enough to keep you entertained for dozens of hours.

Graphically, the game naturally doesn’t reach the quality of the PC version, but it looks great for mobile standards. On flagship phones, it runs smoothly at high details.

Free-to-play, but fair?

The Division Resurgence will be completely free to download and play. Ubisoft promises that microtransactions will only be cosmetic or speed up progress – no pay-to-win. The store is currently disabled in the beta, so we cannot assess how aggressive the monetization will be. However, experience with other mobile games from major publishers suggests that you probably won’t get by without spending a few hundred.

When will the full version be released?

The game was originally supposed to be released last autumn, then it was postponed to early 2024. Currently, Ubisoft is talking about an indefinite date in 2025, possibly even 2026. The developers are taking their time to ensure the game is released in the best possible state. The current beta is intended to help with server tuning and ironing out the biggest bugs.

If you’re tempted to try out an AAA shooter on mobile for free, the beta version of The Division Resurgence is an ideal opportunity. Just keep in mind that your progress will most likely be wiped when the full version is released. On the other hand – you have a chance to be among the first to play potentially one of the most ambitious mobile games of recent years.
