The Email.cz mobile app from Seznam is now smarter. It will suggest email subjects and summarize long messages

Almost everyone handles email from their phone today – and now the first smart features, which Seznam previously only offered in a web browser, are coming to mobile. The Email.cz mobile app can now suggest the subject of a message itself and summarize the content of a longer email into a few sentences.

Email.cz will prepare a message summary and come up with a subject

Seznam has deployed two features in its mobile mail app that were previously only known to web users. The first is called Email Summary: artificial intelligence takes the content of a longer message and condenses it into a short summary, so you get the main points without reading the entire text. This is especially useful when checking mail between meetings or while traveling.

The second feature is for writing. Once you finish writing the body of the message, the app will suggest a suitable subject itself – and on a small phone screen, every such simplification is noticeable. “Subject generation is the first feature that facilitates the actual writing of messages,” says Blanka Řádová, Product Manager for Seznam Email, adding that the company is still preparing other tools for email creation.

The smarter inbox also includes the older Order Overview, which brings together purchase confirmations, delivery information, and product returns in one place. Seznam brought this feature to mobile in the spring, and now it has complemented it with a pair of AI-powered tools.

The app is popular among Czechs

The app is a domestic classic – it has garnered over a million installations on Google Play alone, and Seznam’s email services are used by approximately six million active users monthly, according to the company. Roughly half of them log into their inbox from a mobile phone, and the proportion of people who primarily handle mail on their phone has been growing long-term – which is why smart features are heading there first.

Where does the AI run and what about your data?

Both features run on Seznam’s own language model, which the company develops internally and has been training on Czech for a long time. The company also built its AI assistant on the same model, which we wrote about at the end of May.
