When a competitor introduces a product that you were first to market with, there are two reactions: stay silent, or have some fun. Samsung chose the latter. After the unveiling of the foldable iPhone Duo, it traditionally showered Apple on X with a volley of jabs.

Apple has just unveiled several new products – in addition to the very first foldable iPhone, the iPhone 18 Pro, AirPods 5 headphones, and new watches have also arrived. The iPhone Duo’s shape strikingly resembles the Galaxy Z Fold8 and will hit shelves in October for 54,990 CZK. We have detailed all the information in a separate article.

iPhone Duo? Reheated Leftovers and Another Sims Installment

The most resonant jab was “Let us know when you’re done reheating our leftovers 😉”, which loosely translates to “let us know when you’re done reheating our leftovers”. Samsung thus reminds that much of what Apple showed as new, Android foldables have had for years.

Regarding the iPhone Duo’s design, it added the phrase “Is this a Sims sequel…” – “isn’t this another Sims installment?”. Translated into plain language: it feels like a continuation of the same, not a revolution. The dry “So far, so same” carried the same sentiment, meaning “still the same so far”.

When Apple demonstrated how the partially open phone could be placed on a nightstand in clock mode, Samsung quipped, “It’s giving groundhog day”. This refers to the comedy Groundhog Day, where the hero is stuck in an endless loop and is woken up every morning by the same alarm clock by the bed – in other words, the same thing over and over again. And night clock mode? Foldable phones have been able to do that for a long time.

Folding in Three and Duolingo

To the fact that Apple will make interested parties wait until October and only came with one type of foldable, Samsung also had an answer: “Making us wait? Fine. We’ll be over here, folding 3 ways”. Here, however, I admit I’m not sure if Samsung is referring to the fact that it introduced three new foldables this year, or if it’s reminding that, unlike Apple, it came to market with a triple-folding phone.

And the language app Duolingo was also mentioned: “I’m so sorry, @DuoLingo. They copied us too”. Samsung jokingly apologized to it that Apple “copied” it too when it named its foldable Duo. Duolingo had a quick response and called Samsung an “ugly alien” – supposedly a reference to a viral internet meme.
