The legendary Snapseed gets two practical new features on Android. Will you appreciate at least one of them?

Snapseed wasn’t dead, it was just sleeping for a long time. The photo editor from Google, which used to be an essential tool for every mobile photographer, is experiencing an unexpected comeback this year. After the recent RAW support expansion and a grid with a level, the built-in camera adds two minor features that many will appreciate every day – image geotagging and original saving.

Location yes, but only if you want it

Photos taken directly in Snapseed now carry location information – just like photos from a regular phone camera. In the settings, you’ll find a new Location Metadata switch, which is disabled by default and enabling it will require system permission confirmation. This is a decent approach to privacy; you’ll only attach location to photos if you explicitly choose to.

Original in backup for later consideration

The second new feature will especially please those who like to experiment. The Capture original for re-editing option is automatically enabled and, when using filters or film styles, it will also save the unmodified base image. So, if you get tired of the chosen look the next day, you have something to go back to. At the same time, you can choose where photos are saved and directly create your own folder via the system explorer. Both features are currently widely rolling out with version 4.1.1.x for Android.
