Owners of last year’s Samsung flagships have received it – the first beta of the One UI 9 overlay has arrived on the Galaxy S25 series and brings several new features. One of the most interesting seems to be the Horizon Lock feature, which the manufacturer first introduced with this year’s Galaxy S26 generation. Even Galaxy S25 series models will thus be able to keep the image level, no matter how much you (almost) throw the phone around.

What does Horizon Lock do in video?

The principle is simple. Horizon Lock uses the phone’s motion sensors, specifically the gyroscope, to monitor where the horizontal plane lies and continuously adjusts the image accordingly. Even if you rotate the phone a full 360 degrees during recording, the horizon in the resulting video will remain level. You’ll appreciate this feature most in dynamic, action shots – when running, jumping, or holding the camera in one hand while you’re moving.

We’ve already tested how the feature behaves in practice. In our Galaxy S26 Ultra review, we wrote that Horizon Lock is a technology “inspired by action cameras” and in practice “eliminates the need for an external gimbal for regular dynamic shooting.” This very mode is now heading to the older generation.

How to enable Horizon Lock

Enabling it is a matter of a few taps. Open the standard Camera app, switch to Video mode, and tap the Super Steady icon, which you’ll recognize by the running person silhouette. Then simply select the Horizon Lock icon – the runner in a small square frame. However, one compromise needs to be considered: in this mode, the resolution stops at QHD and the frame rate at 60 frames per second, while regular video can handle 4K at 60 frames. Those who shoot in maximum quality will thus have to choose between a perfectly level horizon and sharper resolution.

Which Galaxy S25 models will get the feature?

Horizon Lock is coming to the entire series – meaning the Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25+, and Galaxy S25 Ultra. The feature originally debuted with this year’s Galaxy S26 generation and recently appeared in the freshly introduced Galaxy S26 FE, which is powered by the Exynos 2500 chip. Its transfer to last year’s flagships thus makes sense.

However, the feature is currently only available in a beta version, which Czech users cannot officially install. But there’s nothing to suggest that Horizon Lock will be missing from the stable version, which is likely to arrive in a few weeks. So, it’s enough to wait a little longer and install the stable One UI 9 once it’s released.
