One of the most requested features for users who move between the worlds of Android and Apple is coming to Samsung’s flagships. The South Korean giant at a press conference in Japan officially confirmed plans to introduce AirDrop compatibility to the Galaxy S26 series. This is a significant step towards breaking down barriers between platforms.

The update is already on its way

Choi Won-jun, COO of Samsung’s mobile division, told reporters that AirDrop support will come to the Galaxy S26 via a software update. The local server EBN reported this. While a specific date was not given, the phrasing “soon” and “gradually” suggests that the feature could appear within weeks. Other Galaxy models are to follow, but Samsung has not yet specified a timeline for them.

Once the feature is activated, Galaxy S26 owners will be able to share photos, videos, and files directly with iPhones, iPads, and Macs without the need to install any third-party applications. The transfer takes place peer-to-peer, meaning without servers and without storing data with intermediaries.

Samsung is neither the first nor the last

Google launched this functionality on the Pixel 10 last November and extended it to the Pixel 9 series in February. Meanwhile, Oppo also joined with the Find X9 series. The list of manufacturers supporting direct sharing with Apple devices is thus growing rapidly.

For proper functioning, it is necessary to activate the “Everyone for 10 minutes” mode in the AirDrop settings on the Apple device. The Galaxy phone will then display available Apple devices in the Quick Share menu, and the transfer can begin.

Will you use the option to share files between Galaxy S26 and iPhones?
