We recently informed you about the leaked renders of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy A17 5G phone, which is set to expand the popular mid-range series. Now, complete official specifications, including marketing materials, have emerged, revealing what one of the best-selling Samsung phones in the affordable category will offer. The new device will bring several interesting improvements over its predecessor.

Sleeker and Lighter Design

Samsung continues its pursuit of the thinnest possible phones, even in the Galaxy A series. The Galaxy A17 5G boasts a thickness of just 7.5 mm, a clear improvement over its 7.99mm predecessor, the Galaxy A16. Concurrently, the weight has also been reduced from the original 200 grams to 192 grams.

The phone’s construction continues to meet IP54 certification for basic resistance against dust and splashing water. While it’s not flagship-level waterproofing, it’s perfectly sufficient for everyday use.

Quality Display with Advanced Protection

At the heart of the Galaxy A17 5G is a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display with a 90 Hz refresh rate, which I personally consider a drawback, as 120 Hz is already a common standard among competitors. Samsung has also integrated Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protection, which is a surprising improvement for an affordable smartphone.

Under the hood, we find the Exynos 1330 processor, which already powers the Galaxy A16 5G, so unfortunately, we won’t see a performance leap (although an upgrade to Exynos 1380 was initially speculated). The phone will offer multiple memory configurations: 4GB, 6GB, or 8GB RAM paired with 128GB or 256GB storage. There’s also a microSD card slot supporting up to 2TB expansion.

Cameras with Optical Stabilization

The camera setup remains fundamentally the same as its predecessor – a 50Mpx main sensor, a 5Mpx ultra-wide lens, and a 2Mpx macro camera. However, the key new feature is the addition of optical image stabilization (OIS) to the main camera, which will significantly help when shooting in low-light conditions and recording videos.

Power will be supplied by a 5000mAh battery with 25W fast charging support. Android Headlines reports that Samsung is also including a charger directly in the box for the European package of the phone, which can no longer be taken for granted today.

Rich AI Features and Long-Term Support

The Galaxy A17 5G will come with One UI 7 based on Android 15. Samsung has integrated advanced AI features into the phone, including the Gemini assistant accessible via the power button, Circle to Search for on-screen searching, and Cross App AI for intelligent work across applications.

Particularly exceptional is Samsung’s commitment to software support – the phone will receive 6 major Android updates and 6 years of security patches.

Launch and Expected Price

The Galaxy A16 was introduced last October, so a similar timeframe can be expected for the Galaxy A17 5G. The new device should arrive shortly after the launch of the Galaxy S25 FE. The price in our country could be around 6 thousand Czech crowns.
