Samsung has created an ultra-slim model for this very case, and it’s now on sale. The Samsung HW-S800D with code ALZADNY25 will cost 8,243 CZK instead of 10,990 CZK, and that includes a wireless subwoofer.

Samsung classifies the HW-S800D among its ultra-slim lifestyle soundbars and recommends it primarily for wall mounting. Instead of a bulky bar that looks like a beam under a modern TV, you get a narrow strip. Bass is handled by a separate subwoofer, which you can place next to the couch, for example, as it connects wirelessly to the soundbar.

With code ALZADNY25, it costs 8,243 CZK, which is 2,747 CZK less than the minimum pre-sale price of 10,990 CZK. The shop tracker evaluates this discount on Alza as real, at 24%. Users on Alza currently give it 4.9 out of 5, but there are only 11 ratings and 4 written reviews. This is still too few for a reliable picture, so I would take it more as an initial signal than a verdict.

Two speakers point to the ceiling, bass plays separately

The 3.1.2 designation refers to three main channels at the front, one channel for the subwoofer, and two upward-firing speakers. The sound reflects off the ceiling and reaches you from above, which is the basis of the Dolby Atmos spatial effect. How much it envelops you also depends on the room; with a high or sloped ceiling, it might be weaker. According to the manufacturer, the subwoofer combines a 6.5″ woofer with an 8″ passive radiator, and Samsung states the total system output as 330 W.

The SpaceFit Sound Pro feature is designed to help with tuning, which, according to Samsung, measures the room itself and adapts the sound to it. Adaptive Sound changes the audio delivery based on what you’re watching, and Active Voice Amplifier boosts dialogue when, for example, a robotic vacuum cleaner starts up in the apartment.

Connectivity is provided by HDMI eARC, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 5.2. You can send music to the soundbar via Chromecast or AirPlay 2, it supports Spotify and Tidal, and you can control it by voice via Alexa or devices with Google Assistant.

It gets along best with a Samsung TV

Many features are tied to Samsung TVs. Q-Symphony allows the TV speakers to play together with the soundbar, you control volume and sound effects with the TV remote via One Remote, and with selected models from 2022 to 2024, the soundbar receives Dolby Atmos via Wi-Fi, wirelessly. Game Mode Pro switches to gaming mode when a console is connected, and with Gaming Hub, it fine-tunes it according to the game genre, according to the manufacturer. Galaxy phone owners can also transfer music to the soundbar with a tap via Tap Sound.

With a TV of a different brand, you’ll lose out on these features, but the soundbar will still play Atmos via HDMI eARC if the TV supports it. One thing to know beforehand: the HW-S800D has only one HDMI port, and that’s an output. Therefore, you’ll connect a game console or Blu-ray player to the TV, and the TV will then send the audio to the soundbar.

Anyone who eventually wants full-fledged surround sound can purchase the SWA-9500S rear speakers. They are sold separately, and the manufacturer warns that even wireless rear speakers require power.

Who the HW-S800D won’t suit

If you want to connect a console or player directly to the soundbar because your TV doesn’t have eARC, you might run into issues. Similarly, anyone with a different brand of TV who is mainly attracted by wireless Atmos or Q-Symphony will pay for features they won’t use at home. And if the TV is on a stand, not wall-mounted, the slim profile doesn’t play such a significant role, and you can easily look for bulkier soundbars.

For eight thousand, I’d primarily get it for a wall-mounted Samsung TV

I would personally recommend the HW-S800D for 8,243 CZK with code ALZADNY25 primarily to owners of newer Samsung TVs who have them wall-mounted and don’t want a bulky box underneath. They will get upward-firing speakers, a wireless subwoofer for the soundbar, and features that their TV can utilize. Anyone with a different brand or needing an HDMI input should not be tempted solely by the 2,747 CZK discount and should compare other models in a similar price range.
