The Xiaomi 17T series is reportedly launching significantly earlier than expected

The Xiaomi T series traditionally launches in September – last year, this was the case for the 15T and 15T Pro models, and the same scenario was repeated in previous years. However, this year could bring a significant change. According to a fresh leak from the Chinese social network Weibo, reported by GSMArena, Xiaomi is preparing to unveil the 17T series as early as May.

Codenames reveal plans

The leaker revealed the model numbers of both upcoming phones. The Xiaomi 17T bears the designation 2602DPT53G and the codename Chagall, while the Xiaomi 17T Pro has the number 2602EPTC0G and is internally referred to as Warhol. Xiaomi traditionally names its phones after famous painters, so these designations fit the established pattern.

Specifications vary by source

According to the latest leak, the base 17T is expected to be powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 8500 chipset, while the Pro version will receive the more powerful Dimensity 9500. This is an interesting contradiction to an earlier leak from HyperOS 3 code, which stated Dimensity 9400 for the base model. Only time will tell which information is correct.

What the leaks agree on is an increase in battery capacity compared to last year’s generation. The Xiaomi 15T had a 5,500 mAh battery, so a shift towards 6,000–6,500 mAh can be expected. On the other hand, no major changes are anticipated in the camera department.

If the information about a May launch is confirmed, it will be the biggest change in the T-series schedule in recent years. Xiaomi has not yet commented on the reasons for this shift.
