The Xiaomi 17T series is showcased in official images! This will be the main selling point

  • Xiaomi 17T and 17T Pro will be officially unveiled on May 28 — the earliest in the history of the T-series, about four months earlier than last year
  • The main attraction is the 5× Leica telephoto lens with a 115mm focal length, which Xiaomi is including even in the base model
  • However, from leaks, we already know practically everything — from chipsets to batteries to European prices

Xiaomi has launched a teaser campaign ahead of the unveiling of the Xiaomi 17T series, scheduled for May 28. The Indian branch released a video of the base model, the global team added several posts on X, and all carry the same message: this is the “Telephoto Master“.

Telephoto lens as the main weapon

What Xiaomi wants to sell the new series with is a five-times telephoto lens with Leica optics. The focal length is said to correspond to 115 millimeters, and according to the manufacturer, it will be standard on both models — so even the base 17T will get the telephoto lens, not just the Pro. This is not entirely a given, as cheaper phones are often stripped of the zoom sensor.

However, Xiaomi juggles numbers around the zoom in a way that it’s good to clarify them. The optical zoom is — full stop. In addition, the company promises “10× zoom with optical quality“, which is a marketing description for a cleverly calculated digital crop, and finally up to 120× AI Ultra Zoom, where the software already completes what the lens didn’t see. Xiaomi keeps the sensor resolution secret in teasers, but according to leaks, it’s 50 Mpx.

Two models that are further apart than before

While the camera brings the models closer, elsewhere they diverge more significantly than previous generations. According to leaks, the base 17T is expected to get a 6.59″ 120Hz AMOLED, a MediaTek Dimensity 8500 chipset, a 6500 mAh battery with 67W charging, and a plastic frame. The 17T Pro goes higher with a 6.83″ 144Hz panel, a more powerful Dimensity 9500, a 7000 mAh battery with 100W wired and 50W wireless charging, and a better Light Fusion 950 main sensor. Both phones run directly on Android 16 and boast IP68 rating.

European prices have also been leaked: €749 (approximately 18,200 CZK) for the 17T with 12/256 GB configuration and €999 (approximately 24,300 CZK) for the 17T Pro in 12/512 GB configuration. Official Czech prices will be announced after launch, but we thus have an indicative idea of which class both new products are targeting. Xiaomi is expected to bundle Redmi Headphones Neo with pre-orders, and for the Pro model, also a Smart Band 10 smart bracelet.

Whether the 17T series lives up to the label “the biggest upgrade to the T-series in history” remains to be seen after May 28.

Are you tempted by the 5× telephoto lens even in the base model, or will you wait for a review?
