Remember movies where the main character places their palm on a scanner and the door elegantly opens? The Xiaomi Smart Door Lock 4 Pro brings this technology to your door. And no, it’s not just a marketing trick – the lock genuinely scans the vein system in your palm using infrared sensors. It’s essentially the same technology some banks use for securing vaults.

The new smart lock from Xiaomi has just been launched in the Chinese market at a price of 2,499 yuan (about 7,300 CZK). That’s not cheap, but when you look at the features, the price starts to make sense. Besides the futuristic vein scanner, you also get 3D facial recognition, a camera with night vision, and integration with the entire Xiaomi ecosystem.

Twelve ways to get home

The Smart Door Lock 4 Pro offers a total of 12 different unlocking methods. Besides the mentioned vein scanner and 3D facial recognition, there’s a classic fingerprint reader, a numeric keypad for PIN, an NFC reader for cards or phones, and of course, the option to unlock the door remotely via an app.

Xiaomi also hasn’t forgotten about the classic mechanical key. So, if your battery dies, the internet goes down, and all biometrics fail, you can still get home the old-fashioned way.

The vein scanner operates with over 99 percent accuracy and a speed of less than one second. Unlike fingerprints, it works reliably even with wet or dirty hands. It can even recognize children who can’t reach classic readers.

Camera guards the door and streams to TV

On the outside of the lock is a 2-megapixel camera with a 152-degree field of view. This not only shows you who is ringing but, thanks to its integration with HyperOS Connect, you can stream the image to a smart TV or Xiaomi tablet.

The camera also features dynamic night vision, which automatically switches between color and black-and-white modes based on lighting conditions. If someone lingers suspiciously long at your door, the lock automatically starts recording and sends you a notification to your phone.

The system will also alert you if you leave the door open, someone tries to tamper with the outer panel, or enters the wrong PIN multiple times.

Lasts up to 4 months on a single charge

The lock is powered by a 5000mAh lithium battery, which lasts up to 4 months. For extra assurance, you can add four AA batteries, extending the battery life by another half a year. In an emergency, the lock can also be powered by a power bank via the USB port – so even with a complete power outage, you can get inside.

The design is minimalist and modern; Xiaomi even added silent locking technology. No loud clicking to wake up the neighbors at night. The lock automatically locks almost silently.

Will it come to Europe?

Currently, the Smart Door Lock 4 Pro is available only in China. However, Xiaomi already supplies other smart security products to Europe, such as the Smart Doorbell 3S. So, it’s not out of the question that we might see this lock eventually.

However, for the Czech and European markets, Xiaomi should prepare for different security standards and certifications. It would also be good to add support for local smart home systems like Google Home or Apple HomeKit. Otherwise, it will have a tough time against established brands like Yale or Nuki.
