Headphones for a few hundred are common today, but you can currently get Redmi Buds 6 Play for just 171 CZK, which is almost half their original price. According to Heureka, the cheapest offer is on the Allegro portal, where the headphones are sold for exactly this amount. Last year, when they were launched on the Czech market, they cost 299 CZK, so the discount is quite decent. The question, however, is what you actually get for that money.

What are Redmi Buds 6 Play?

Redmi Buds 6 Play are basic True Wireless headphones in the “cheaper than cheap” segment. The design is classic – small earbuds with an oval case that fits into a pants pocket. Each earbud weighs only 3.6 grams, so you’ll barely feel them in your ear. The case then adds another 32.8 grams, bringing the total weight including both earbuds to 40 grams.

Xiaomi offers the headphones in three color variants – black, white, and purple. The case has a USB-C connector for charging, which is now standard. The headphones are IPX4 certified, so they can withstand light water splashes or sweat during sports. However, you cannot swim with them.

What features do they have?

For that price, you’d expect bare basics, but Redmi Buds 6 Play surprisingly offer decent features. Each earbud has a 10mm dynamic driver, which is a standard size for this type of device. Xiaomi promises “powerful bass and clear sound,” but these are marketing phrases you’ll find with any headphones. I wouldn’t expect above-average quality from these headphones – for 171 CZK, you simply can’t expect miracles.

What’s nice, however, is the support for Bluetooth 5.4, which is the latest version of the protocol. This means more stable connection and lower latency compared to older versions. The headphones also support Google Fast Pair, so pairing with Android is a matter of one click – just open the case and a notification will appear on your phone.

For phone calls, Redmi boasts AI noise cancellation. In practice, this means the headphones can filter out ambient sounds and emphasize your voice. Does it work? Probably yes, but don’t expect miracles – in noisy environments, it will still be worse than with more expensive models with active noise cancellation (ANC), which Redmi Buds 6 Play do not have.

Controls and App

The headphones are controlled by touch gestures – double-tap to play/pause, triple-tap to skip a track, and hold to launch the voice assistant. All of this works standardly and can be customized in the Xiaomi Earbuds app, which is available on Google Play and the App Store.

Battery Life and Charging

Each earbud has a 57 mAh battery, and the case has 600 mAh. Xiaomi promises 7.5 hours of battery life on a single charge when listening at 50% volume. With the case, you can get up to 36 hours, which is quite a solid number.

Fast charging also works – 10 minutes on the charger gives you 3 hours of listening time. But beware, fast charging only works when the case has at least 35% battery. Otherwise, it charges at normal speed.

Is it worth it?

For 171 CZK, it’s hard to say it’s not worth it. Yes, the quality won’t be astounding. Yes, the bass might be boomy and the highs a bit sibilant. But you get functional TWS headphones with Google Fast Pair, decent battery life, and basic features.

If you’re looking for the cheapest way to get rid of cables, this is a good choice. However, if you want quality sound or active noise cancellation, it’s better to pay extra for something better. For example, Redmi Buds 6 Pro (not Play) have ANC and sell for approximately 1300-1600 CZK, which is still a decent price.

And one more thing – the discount on Allegro might not last long. If the price caught your eye, don’t hesitate too long. In a few days, the price might be back to 299 CZK or higher.

Would you buy headphones for 171 CZK, or would you rather pay extra?
