Flagship 8K resolution TVs are inherently extremely expensive and practically unattainable for most people. However, sometimes the price drops enough to warrant attention – and that’s exactly the case with the Samsung QE85QN990F. This eighty-five-inch Neo QLED behemoth, which Samsung launched on the Czech market last April for 269,990 CZK, is now selling on Alza for 132,993 CZK. That’s less than half of the original amount and a saving of over 130,000 CZK.

8K Resolution Picture with Mini LED Backlighting

The Samsung QN990F is at the very top of the South Korean manufacturer’s TV lineup. It features an 85-inch panel with 8K Ultra HD resolution (7,680 × 4,320 pixels), which is four times that of today’s common 4K. Backlighting is handled by Quantum Mini LED technology, which ensures precise contrast through local dimming – deep blacks alongside brilliantly white areas.

Worth noting is the matte screen finish with Glare Free certification from UL Solutions. The display barely reflects ambient light, so viewing in daylight poses no problem. This will be especially appreciated by owners of living rooms with large windows, where reflections on regular TVs can be quite annoying.

Image processing is handled by the NQ8 AI Gen3 processor with 768 neural networks, which, among other things, manages upscaling lower-resolution content to 8K via the 8K AI Upscaling Pro feature. The TV supports HDR10+ and Auto HDR Remastering Pro, which automatically enhances SDR content to a level close to HDR. However, Dolby Vision is missing from the technical specifications, which may bother users of services like Netflix or Apple TV+, where this format is widely represented.

Wireless One Connect and 90W Sound with Dolby Atmos

One of the most distinctive features of the QN990F model is the wireless One Connect box. All cables – a total of 5× HDMI, 3× USB, and LAN – connect to a separate box that communicates wirelessly with the TV. This means only a power cable leads to the screen itself, which significantly simplifies installation and creates a very clean look when wall-mounted. However, it’s important to note that there must be no physical obstruction, such as a wall, between the box and the TV.

Regarding sound, the Samsung QN990F features a 6.2.4-channel system with a total output of 90 W, supporting Dolby Atmos and OTS Pro (Object Tracking Sound) technology, which moves sound across speakers according to the movement of objects on the screen. For an even better experience, sound can be synchronized with a compatible Samsung soundbar via the Q-Symphony feature, where the TV does not turn off its speakers but rather complements the soundbar with them.

Gaming Features and Smart Equipment

Gamers will appreciate support for a refresh rate of up to 240 Hz at 4K resolution thanks to Motion Xcelerator technology and FreeSync Premium Pro. A gaming control panel, automatic game mode with genre recognition, and support for ultrawide aspect ratios of 21:9 and 32:9 are available. However, it is important to note that FreeSync Premium Pro works only when directly connected to the TV’s micro HDMI port, not via the wireless One Connect box.

The TV runs on the One UI Tizen operating system with access to streaming services like Oneplay, Netflix, or Disney+. Samsung promises 7 years of operating system updates, which is a solid commitment for a 2025 TV. The integrated SmartThings hub allows controlling smart home devices directly from the TV, with compatibility for Matter and HCA protocols. The package includes a SolarCell remote control, which charges via light and, if needed, via USB-C.

Who the TV is For and Who it Isn’t For

The Samsung QE85QN990F for 132,993 CZK is intended for film enthusiasts and gamers who demand the best on the market and have enough space for an 85-inch diagonal. The wireless One Connect, matte display, 90W audio with Dolby Atmos, and 240Hz gaming mode are features simply not found on cheaper TVs. The saving of over 130,000 CZK compared to last April’s price makes the entire offer an unprecedented opportunity.

On the other hand, several things must be acknowledged. Native 8K content is still very scarce – most streaming services offer a maximum of 4K, so you will primarily rely on upscaling. There is no support for Dolby Vision, energy class G means higher electricity consumption, and 85 inches requires a room where you sit at least 3 meters from the TV. And even with a significant discount, it is still an investment of over 130,000 CZK.

Did this discount catch your eye, or is an 8K TV still too premature an investment for you?
