This can't be true. An alleged render of the Xiaomi 18 has appeared online, it looks too much like an iPhone

  • The design strikingly resembles the iPhone 16 Pro, especially the camera module and rounded corners
  • The phone is not expected until September, so it's still too early for speculation

Chinese smartphone manufacturers have long tended to seek inspiration from Apple, and Xiaomi is certainly no exception. An alleged render of the Xiaomi 18 has now appeared on the social network Weibo, which evokes more embarrassment than excitement. If the image were to correspond to reality, the upcoming novelty would be barely distinguishable from the iPhone 16 Pro. Exceptionally, I would therefore even hope that it is a fake.

Coincidence or intent?

Xiaomi is no stranger to imitating Apple. Just recall last year’s move, when the company skipped the entire Xiaomi 16 series to boast the Xiaomi 17 – a model whose name matches the current generation of iPhones. Coincidence? Hardly.

What we know about the specifications

Regardless of the controversial design, we have a fairly clear idea of the Xiaomi 18’s features from previous leaks. The phone should feature a 6.4″ OLED display, which is a slight increase compared to the 6.3″ panel on the current Xiaomi 17. The main photographic attraction is expected to be a 200Mpx periscope telephoto lens, which should be available across the entire series.

Under the hood, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 is expected to tick. The more powerful Pro variant is reportedly too expensive, so Xiaomi will reserve it for the 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max models. The entire series is expected to be unveiled in September this year.

Take it with a grain of salt

The render seems truly far-fetched, and moreover, there’s still more than half a year until the Xiaomi 18 is unveiled, so it will be reasonable to approach the entire leak with skepticism.

Currently, Xiaomi is preparing to launch the Xiaomi 17 and Xiaomi 17 Ultra models on the European market, along with Pad 8 tablets and Watch 5 smartwatches, about whose features we were the first in the world to report.

What do you think of the alleged Xiaomi 18 design?
