This didn't go well again. Google accidentally showcased a new version of Pixel Buds Pro 2 headphones

The Californian tech giant has once again committed a seemingly unintentional premature reveal. This time, a new Moonstone color variant of the Pixel Buds Pro 2 headphones appeared on the official Google Store, which the company plans to introduce on August 20 along with the Pixel 10 series. The leak also reveals interesting changes in the entire color palette of these premium headphones.

Moonstone color revealed too early

In the 3D preview of the headphones on the Google Store, the Moonstone color unexpectedly appeared, which the manufacturer has not yet officially announced. The new variant looks elegant in a gray shade and uses the same type of case as other Pixel Buds Pro 2 models. Moonstone is not a random choice – it is the characteristic color of the entire Pixel 10 series, which will also be found in upcoming phones. Google regularly experiences similar premature leaks. While renders of Pixel 10 phones appeared in the Play Store at the end of July, now it’s the headphones’ turn.

Changes in color offering

The leak also revealed interesting shifts in available colors. In addition to the new Moonstone, the list also includes an Obsidian variant, which Google has not yet confirmed. At the same time, however, the unusually looking Wintergreen color is disappearing.

The Porcelain and Peony colors will remain, while the original Hazel will likely change to Obsidian. However, it is not clear whether this is a real color change or just a marketing renaming of an existing shade.

Introduction with Pixel 10 series coming soon

Google will officially unveil the new Pixel Buds Pro 2 colors on August 20, 2025 during the Made by Google event. Simultaneously, it will introduce the entire Pixel 10 series, Pixel Watch 4 smartwatches, and also the long-awaited cheaper Pixel Buds 2a headphones.

Pixel Buds 2a should finally fill the gap in Google’s mid-range headphones. While the current Pixel Buds A from 2021 are desperately lagging behind the competition, the new model will likely offer modern features like active noise cancellation at an affordable price.
