Do you still remember the speculations about Garmin sports watches with a microLED display? Now it seems we are closer to their launch than one might expect. The American manufacturer itself – probably by mistake – published the Fenix 8 Pro microLED watch on its website, along with a render showing its appearance. There will also be a standard version of the Fenix 8 Pro, which, according to the image, will offer an AMOLED panel and will likely be cheaper. Compared to the classic “eights”, it will receive at least one attractive improvement.

Garmin to bring microLED watches as the first in the world

The deployment of microLED panels in smartwatches has been discussed for a relatively long time. Seasoned manufacturers like Apple and Samsung, who even publicly boasted about the concept, experimented with more advanced display technology. However, I would not have originally expected Garmin to be the first to bring it to ordinary mortals.

Now, however, everything points to it. Garmin evidently already has marketing renders prepared, and their publication (albeit likely unintentional) on the official website suggests a very imminent launch.

What to expect from Fenix 8 Pro microLED?

You are probably wondering what we can expect from the Garmin Fenix 8 Pro microLED. Since the leak didn’t reveal much, we can start with general assumptions for this type of display. Compared to AMOLEDs, which last year’s Fenix models offered for the very first time, it offers several benefits. If we disregard the rather minor detail of nicer colors for many users, we are primarily talking about higher brightness, significantly better energy efficiency, and longer lifespan. Inorganic diodes, which are not susceptible to burn-in, are responsible for this.

In short, microLED can be seen as the future of displays. After all, Garmin itself stated that the Fenix 8 Pro watches with this technology would be the brightest smartwatches ever built. However, a clear disadvantage of this more advanced panel type is higher production costs, which will undoubtedly be reflected in the final price. It can therefore be assumed that the new watches will truly not be a cheap affair and only true enthusiasts will be able to afford them.

SOS as the main advantage of the Pro version

From the render of the regular Garmin Fenix 8 Pro version, it is evident that we will see new safety features. The mention of SOS suggests the long-discussed LTE connectivity and possibly even satellite connection support, which would likely require a separate subscription. Even so, it would be a big step forward, benefiting primarily outdoor enthusiasts who often venture into nature alone.

Will we see it tomorrow?

According to Reddit user flodschi22, the Fenix 8 Pro could be launched as early as tomorrow (or today, if you are reading this article on Wednesday). However, the pricing of the new watches is not yet clear.
