While Google is preparing for the launch of the Pixel 10a, Apple apparently isn’t lagging behind and is preparing a successor to last year’s iPhone 16e. Well-known leaker Jon Prosser has now published a video with renders on his FrontPageTech channel, showing what the upcoming iPhone 17e should look like. And if the information is confirmed, it’s a rather interesting upgrade.

Dynamic Island instead of a notch?

The most significant change compared to its predecessor is expected to be the transition from the classic notch to Dynamic Island, which Apple introduced with the iPhone 14 Pro series. This would give the phone a more modern look and eliminate a design element that seems somewhat outdated in 2026. It must be added, however, that other sources dispute this information and claim that the iPhone 17e will retain the notch.

If Dynamic Island were to truly appear, it would also bring a new 18Mpx front camera with Centre Stage functionality, which debuted with the iPhone 17 series. For younger users who purchase the iPhone 17e as their first smartphone, this would be a welcome improvement.

Specifications: powerful chip, weak display

Under the hood, the iPhone 17e is expected to get an Apple A19 chip, albeit in a lower variant than the flagship models. The equipment will include 8 GB of RAM, which is necessary to support Apple Intelligence features. Also new is the second-generation C1X modem and the N1 chip for wireless connectivity.

The biggest weakness remains the 6.1-inch display with a 60Hz refresh rate. At a time when even significantly cheaper Android phones offer 90 or 120 Hz, this specification seems like an unnecessary compromise. On the back, there is expected to be a 48Mpx main camera, which, thanks to the newer chip, could offer better image quality than its predecessor.

MagSafe finally in the base model

An important new feature is MagSafe support with wireless charging up to 25 W. The iPhone 16e lacked this feature, which limited the possibilities of using magnetic accessories. The battery capacity should remain at 4,000 mAh.

The phone is expected to be available in black and white, with speculation also about a Lavender variant. The price should start at $599 for the 128 GB storage version, the same as its predecessor.

Unveiling as early as next week?

According to the German website Macwelt, Apple could announce the iPhone 17e on February 19 via a press release. If this information is confirmed, it would be a similar scenario to last year’s iPhone 16e. An affordable model is important for Apple – the iPhone 16e reportedly accounted for 11% of sales for the entire iPhone series.

The question remains whether Dynamic Island will actually arrive, or if it’s just the wish of some leakers. We should find out the answer very soon.
