The original iPhone Air impressed with its record-thin body, but the single rear camera was one of its most frequently criticized weaknesses. Apple aims to fix exactly that with its successor. Renowned informant Jon Prosser has now published a rendered video, according to which the iPhone Air 2 will get two rear sensors – and to accommodate them, Apple also redesigned the front Face ID. However, the unveiling is not expected until spring 2027.

iPhone Air 2 will bring another rear camera

According to many, the first one was more of a stylish experiment than a full-fledged camera phone – it only had a single lens on the back. However, Prosser’s renders show that the iPhone Air 2 will get a pair of 48MPx sensors, meaning a main and a new ultrawide one. Both cameras are expected to be arranged in a horizontal module.

However, the second lens needs to fit somewhere without making the phone thicker. The solution is said to be a smaller Face ID module: thanks to it, the Dynamic Island will reportedly shrink as well, giving the display a bit more space. Apple would thus solve two things at once.

Prosser himself also points out that the design is not yet final and Apple may well adjust it before launch.

Under the hood, a 2nm Apple A20 Pro will run

Inside, an Apple A20 Pro chip, manufactured with the most advanced 2nm process, is expected to tick – a more powerful variant than anticipated for such a thin model. The body is expected to remain made of titanium alloy and, according to the leak, measure just 5.6 mm. A slightly larger battery is said to fit into such a slim design, but Prosser does not specify the exact capacity.

Color variants and availability

There are expected to be four shades to choose from: Space Black, Cloud White, and Light Gold, with a new Lavender replacing the current Sky Blue. The colors thus remain in a subtle, rather pastel palette.

The unveiling itself is reportedly planned for spring 2027, alongside the base iPhone 18 and the more affordable iPhone 18e model. However, that is a long time away, during which many details may still change.

Will Air replace the classic iPhone?

It’s worth noting that Prosser is among seasoned informants – Apple even sued him over leaks, which adds credibility to his sources. Nevertheless, these are still renders and speculations, not official photographs. The leaker himself also believes that the Air series could eventually replace the base iPhones, leaving Apple with only three lines – Pro, the regular iPhone, and the foldable Ultra. However, this is pure speculation, and he admits he has no idea when or if such a thing will ever happen.
