Fans of mobile technologies, and especially passionate mobile gamers, probably don’t need an introduction to the Redmagic brand. For others, I’ll just add that it’s a long-standing brand focused on gaming hardware, from accessories to mobile phones and laptops. Gaming Android tablets are also an integral part of its offering. The new Redmagic Astra 2 is a compact tablet with top-tier performance and liquid cooling, which can appeal to more than just gamers.

Performance is what it’s all about

And where else to start with such a device than its performance? It’s powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, supported by 12 or 16 GB of LPDDR5x RAM and 256 or 512GB UFS 4.1 storage. To top it off, there’s also a chip called RedCore R4, tasked with optimizing in-game performance and minimizing FPS drops and power consumption.

However, as you surely know, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 can get quite hot under high continuous load. The manufacturer, however, thought of this and equipped its tablet with advanced cooling. This consists of liquid cooling, with liquid metal ensuring contact between the heatsink and the chipset. Heat is then dissipated into a giant vapor chamber. The display is an OLED with a 9.06″ diagonal and a 185Hz refresh rate. The 2400 x 1504 px resolution means a 16:10 aspect ratio, and combined with the diagonal, it provides an image density of 313 ppi. The brightness value is very solid for a tablet, reaching a maximum of 1600 nits and 1100 nits across the entire screen.

The display is protected by unspecified Corning Gorilla Glass, and the device meets IP54 certification. In terms of communication, Redmagic Astra 2 supports the latest technologies, led by Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0. An interesting feature is the presence of two USB-C connectors. One on the short side and one on the long side, with one being USB 2.0 type and the other USB 3.2 with the option of 4k@144Hz or 8k@60Hz video output.

The built-in battery has a capacity of 8,300 mAh, and according to the manufacturer, thanks to optimization, the tablet can handle over 9 hours of Genshin Impact gameplay at 60 fps or 9.6 hours of combined use, including video and photo editing. 75W fast charging is supported. We should definitely appreciate the Bypass charging technology, where if the battery is charged, you have an adapter connected, and you are, for example, playing on the tablet, the tablet’s hardware draws power directly from the mains. In this case, the battery is bypassed, protecting it from heating and wear.

Redmagic Astra 2 Availability and Price

The tablet will arrive on the European market on August 26th in silver and black color variants. The basic 12 / 256GB variant will cost 699 € (approximately 17,000 CZK), and the more equipped 16 / 512GB model will cost 799 € (approximately 19,400 CZK). If you decide to buy early access for 1€, you will get the option to purchase the tablet a day earlier, but more importantly, also a 30 € discount and a free 80W fast charger. In our region, the tablet will likely, as always, be available only through the official European Redmagic website.
