Xiaomi’s portfolio of streaming devices is expanding with another model. Following last year’s launch of the Xiaomi TV Stick 4K (2nd Gen), which arrived in the Czech Republic with a price of 1,299 CZK, and the more expensive TV Box S, the manufacturer has now introduced its cheaper sibling. The Xiaomi TV Stick HD (2nd Gen) is aimed at users who are content with Full HD resolution and don’t want to spend too much on a streaming adapter. However, it has only appeared on the manufacturer’s global website so far.

Significant Leap Compared to the First Generation

The original Mi TV Stick, priced at 1,099 CZK in the official e-shop, was a popular choice for many years for those who wanted to revive an older TV for a few crowns. The second generation of the HD model brings several significant improvements, which should offer a noticeably better user experience.

The most significant change is the transition to a quad-core Cortex-A55 processor, which replaces the older Cortex-A53. Xiaomi reports a 38% increase in processor performance. Graphics are handled by the Mali-G31 MP2 GPU, which is also a generational leap compared to the Mali-450 in the original model. The operating system has changed from Android TV 9.0 to Google TV, which offers a more modern interface with personalized content recommendations.

Other new features include support for HDR10+ for better display of bright and dark scenes, a DTS:X audio decoder, and an AV1 video decoder, which is now standard for streaming services. Bluetooth has moved from version 4.2 to 5.0. Dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4 and 5 GHz) remains.

Specifications and Dimensions

The Xiaomi TV Stick HD (2nd Gen) features 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of internal storage. The maximum output resolution is 1080p at 60 Hz, with lower modes 720p and 1080i also supported. The device measures 107.4 × 30 × 14 mm and weighs 44 grams, which is noticeably more than the 28.5 grams of the original Mi TV Stick.

There is one HDMI port and a Micro USB for power. The package includes the adapter itself, a remote control, an HDMI extension cable, a USB power cable, and a user manual. The power adapter is not included – Xiaomi recommends using a standard 5V/1A adapter or the TV’s USB port.

Where it Lags Behind the 4K Version

Anyone considering between the HD and 4K versions of the second generation should be aware of several significant differences. The Xiaomi TV Stick 4K (2nd Gen), priced at 1,299 CZK, offers not only 4K resolution but also 2 GB of RAM instead of one, a more powerful 6nm chip, and Wi-Fi 6 for faster wireless connectivity.

The more expensive model also supports Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, while the HD version only offers HDR10+ and Dolby Audio. Bluetooth in the 4K version is standard 5.2 compared to 5.0 in the HD model. For users with a 4K TV and demands for image quality, it makes sense to pay a couple hundred more.

Availability and Price

The Xiaomi TV Stick HD (2nd Gen) has so far only appeared on the manufacturer’s global website, which indicates a planned expansion to other markets. When and for how much it will arrive in the Czech Republic is not yet known. Given the price of the original Mi TV Stick (1,099 CZK) and the 4K version (1,299 CZK), it can be expected that the new product will be priced somewhere between them, or perhaps replace the older HD model at the same price.

Would you welcome a cheaper HD alternative to the 4K model?
