The XR headset codenamed Project Moohan will be unveiled on October 21, 2025 during a special event called Galaxy Event. This is Samsung’s first attempt to enter the augmented reality market, where Apple with its Vision Pro and Meta with its Quest series are already present. When and where to watch the unveiling 29 Million Pixels Before Your Eyes Weight and Battery Life: A Compromise as Always Controllers and One UI XR Price 1,800 USD: Samsung Isn't Targeting the Masses When and where to watch the unveiling The event will start at 10:00 PM ET (which is 4:00 AM Central European Time on October 22) and will be live-streamed on Samsung’s YouTube channel and the official Samsung Newsroom. In the invitation, Samsung promises “a new era of multimodal AI” and emphasizes that it is a device built from the ground up on the Android XR platform, which was created in collaboration with Google and Qualcomm. Samsung has not yet confirmed the marketing name of the headset, but leaked information strongly suggests the designation Galaxy XR, which would make sense in the context of other product branding. 29 Million Pixels Before Your Eyes According to last week’s spec leak, the Galaxy XR is expected to feature two 4K micro-LED displays with a density of 4,032 pixels per inch. This totals 29 million pixels, which is more than the 23 million in Apple Vision Pro or Meta Quest 3. On paper, it looks great, but in practice, it depends on how Samsung manages software optimization and how well it can utilize the Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 chipset. The headset will be equipped with six sensors on the front and two on the bottom for hand tracking and environmental awareness. Four internal cameras will handle eye tracking, with artificial intelligence assisting to increase accuracy. Samsung has also integrated a proximity sensor near the forehead, designed to detect physical obstacles such as walls or furniture. Weight and Battery Life: A Compromise as Always The Galaxy XR is expected to weigh 545 grams, which is slightly less than the Apple Vision Pro’s 600-650 grams, but 30 grams more than the Meta Quest 3. Every extra gram is felt on the head, so Samsung is neither the lightest nor the heaviest. Battery life, however, is a weaker point – only 2 hours of normal use and 2.5 hours of video playback. This is insufficient if you want to use the headset for extended periods without being connected to a power source. The headset’s design resembles a prototype that Samsung showcased in January and later in February at MWC. Inside, there’s expected to be ample padding for greater comfort, with the strap adjustable via a dial at the back. Volume and power buttons are located on top, a cable on the left side leads to power, and a touchpad is on the right side for control. Controllers and One UI XR The package will also include two controllers with haptic feedback, designed to improve hand tracking accuracy in virtual 3D environments – especially during gaming. Samsung also leaked screenshots of the software, which will likely be named One UI XR. This is a custom overlay on top of Android XR, which Google optimized specifically for XR devices. According to Samsung, the Android XR platform is designed to scale across various device types and have AI built directly into the system’s core. This sounds good on paper, but we’ll have to wait to see how it performs in reality. Price 1,800 USD: Samsung Isn’t Targeting the Masses According to leaks, the Galaxy XR should cost at least 1,800 USD (approximately 37,000 CZK), which is not an excessively high price. Apple Vision Pro starts at 3,499 USD (about 73,000 CZK), making Samsung cheaper. However, it is still a premium device for early adopters and professionals. Meta Quest 3, on the other hand, starts at 499 USD, which is an entirely different category. Samsung has not yet confirmed either the price or availability in Europe. If the headset does reach us, it likely won’t be before the first half of 2026. Would you buy an XR headset from Samsung?
