This is not a TV where corners were cut – it’s a flagship Hisense with features that competitors sell for a higher price. The Hisense 85U8Q now costs 41,993 CZK with code ALZADNY30 instead of 59,990 CZK, a discount of 18,000 CZK. And the main number that sets it apart from everything else in this tier: 3,168 local dimming zones.

👍 Get it if you want a giant picture with OLED-like quality, play on a console, and don’t want to deal with a soundbar right away.
🤔 Hesitate if you’re watching consumption – 350 kWh per thousand hours in HDR is a lot, and at 54.6 kg, you’ll need help with installation.
💰 Price: 41,993 CZK for a flagship Mini LED with an anti-reflective panel, 90W sound by Devialet, and a five-year warranty after registration.

Three Thousand Zones Make Mini LED Almost OLED

The number of local dimming zones determines how precisely a TV can dim individual parts of the image. Cheap Mini LED models have dozens, good ones hundreds – this one has 3,168. In practice, this means deep blacks without gray haze and minimal halo effects around subtitles or lights in a night scene, which is precisely what makes this Mini LED most closely resemble OLED.

The anti-reflective screen surface is also crucial – for an eighty-five-inch screen, reflections from a window are a problem that is significantly reduced here. The TV supports Dolby Vision IQ, HDR10+, and HLG and is Calman Ready, meaning it’s prepared for professional color calibration. For gamers, there’s 165 Hz in game mode, VRR, and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro, plus three HDMI 2.1 ports.

The most pleasant surprise, however, is the sound. A 90W system with a built-in subwoofer tuned by the French audiophile brand Devialet is an absolute rarity in TVs – with Dolby Atmos and automatic room sound calibration, you can do without a soundbar longer than is usual for large TVs. The Vidaa system has a complete Czech offering (Oneplay, Prima+, SledováníTV, Telly, Skylink) as well as Netflix, Disney+, HBO Max, and Apple TV, plus Wi-Fi 6E, AirPlay 2, and Apple HomeKit support.

What to Consider

First, a practical matter: the TV weighs 54.6 kg and is almost two meters wide. You won’t be able to lift or mount it yourself – Alza offers delivery and professional wall mounting for it, which I highly recommend for such a piece. And as with all eighty-five-inch TVs, you need a viewing distance of at least three and a half meters, otherwise, you won’t enjoy the picture.

The second thing is consumption: energy class C in SDR is good given the size, but 350 kWh per thousand hours in HDR is a noticeable item on the bill. And one technical detail for the meticulous – the panel has an 8-bit color depth, which is a bit surprising for a flagship TV, although you practically won’t notice it in regular viewing.

Don’t forget to register with Hisense after purchase to get a five-year warranty instead of the standard two years – for a TV costing forty thousand, it’s an insurance you don’t want to miss.

Would you choose a flagship Mini LED, or rather a smaller OLED for the same price?
