While in the Czech Republic we can buy the standard Xiaomi Smart Temperature and Humidity Monitor 3 for approximately 260 Czech crowns, its miniature version, which we previously informed you about, has arrived in Europe. The Monitor 3 Mini is available in Germany for 14.99 euros (approximately 370 CZK) and should soon appear here as well. What does it offer and is it worth waiting for?

Half the size, same features

The new Monitor 3 Mini measures just 53 × 45.3 × 13 millimeters and weighs a mere 30 grams. For context – it’s roughly the size of a larger keychain. Compared to the standard version we already know in the Czech Republic, this is a significant reduction in size. Yet, it retains a 2.1-inch display, which shows temperature with an accuracy of 0.1 °C and humidity to 1 percent.

Values are updated every 6 seconds, which is sufficient for home use. Like its larger sibling, it connects via Bluetooth to the Xiaomi Home app, where you can monitor historical data and, most importantly – connect the sensor with other smart home devices. When the temperature drops below a set value, heating can automatically turn on. When humidity exceeds the limit, a dehumidifier will start.

Surprising battery life

While the standard Monitor 3 lasts approximately a year and a half on a CR2450 coin cell battery, the miniature version surprisingly offers up to three years of operation. This is likely due to a smaller display and more optimized electronics. In practice, this means you install the sensor and can forget about it for several years.

Xiaomi has started sales in Germany and Hungary, with support pages also appearing in France and the UK. The Mini version could arrive in the Czech Republic within a few weeks to months – depending on how quickly it enters the portfolio of local distributors.

Mini or standard version?

An interesting situation will arise when the Mini version reaches us. The standard Monitor 3 costs around 260 Czech crowns and offers a larger display, which, in addition to temperature and humidity, also shows the date, time, and an emoticon indicating the comfort level. The Mini version lacks these additional pieces of information.

The German price of 15 euros suggests that the Mini version could cost around 350-400 Czech crowns here. This is paradoxically more than the larger model. If you don’t explicitly need miniature dimensions (e.g., for a bathroom or a small pantry), the standard version makes more sense – it has a larger display with more information and costs less.

On the other hand, the battery life of the Mini version is appealing. If you plan to place the sensor somewhere where battery replacement is complicated (attic, basement, covered outdoor area), the Mini version might be a more practical choice. It also fits well into smaller spaces where the standard model would appear too bulky.

Do you have experience with similar sensors?
