TP-Link is expanding its smart home offering with the hidden switch module Tapo S112, which can transform ordinary switches, lights, or electric blinds into smart devices. The new product is installed directly into the electrical installation box in the wall and, thanks to its compact dimensions of 44.7 × 40.7 × 16.1 mm, fits even into the smallest boxes behind switches.

Two Modes for Various Uses

The Tapo S112 offers various operating modes depending on what you need to control. In blind mode, it can control the motor of blinds, roller shutters, or awnings, including precise position adjustment. If the blind encounters an obstacle during lowering, the module automatically stops the motor, preventing damage.

In switch mode, thanks to two built-in relays, the module can independently control two different lights or appliances. You can control each device separately via the app, voice commands, or automated scenes. The original switch remains fully functional.

TP-Link also shows on its website that the box can be used for controlling sockets or electric underfloor heating.

Ten Times Longer Lifespan Thanks to Relay Protection

TP-Link equipped the module with zero-crossing protection technology, which protects relay contacts from welding. According to the manufacturer’s laboratory tests, this protection extends the switch’s lifespan by more than tenfold compared to conventional modules. The feature is particularly useful for devices with capacitive loads, such as LED lights.

The module also includes relay failure detection – if any of them stop working correctly, the Tapo app will immediately send a notification. Overload, overheating, and power fluctuation protection are also included.

Real-time Energy Consumption Monitoring

The Tapo S112 allows measuring the consumption of connected devices for each channel separately. In the Tapo app, you can set current electricity tariffs to get an overview of the operating costs of individual appliances. Data is displayed in clear graphs, helping to identify energy-intensive devices.

The consumption measurement function only works with AC power. For each connected device, you will get daily, weekly, and monthly consumption statistics.

Matter Ensures Universal Compatibility

Thanks to Matter certification, the module works with most smart platforms simultaneously. After a single setup, you can control it via Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, and Samsung SmartThings without the need for different applications. Simply scan the QR code included with the device using your preferred app.

The module communicates via 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. Bluetooth allows basic control even without an internet connection – if Wi-Fi drops or you change your router password, you can continue to control the device locally via the Tapo app.

Installation Must Be Performed by a Qualified Person

The Tapo S112 is installed directly into the electrical installation box behind an existing switch or socket. It connects to the existing wiring of a light, blind, or appliance. Due to the necessity of working with 230V voltage, installation must be entrusted to an electrician.

After physical connection, simply pair the module with the Tapo app via Bluetooth. You can then connect it to your home Wi-Fi network and set up schedules, automations, or voice control. The original mechanical switch remains functional for manual control.

Availability and Price

The TP-Link Tapo S112 is available in the Czech Republic for a recommended price of 679 CZK. The module can already be ordered on Alza, but the delivery date is not yet known. For some retailers, the device is already in stock, and the price even starts below 600 CZK.
