Outdoor security cameras have become an essential part of many households in recent years. However, they also encounter two problems: either they require wired power, which limits their placement, or they have a single lens that cannot cover a larger area. TP-Link is now attempting to solve both shortcomings with one product. The Tapo C645D KIT is coming to the Czech market – an outdoor camera with two 2K lenses and a solar panel included in the package. The price is 5 499 Kč, which is undoubtedly a higher amount. Can it justify itself?

Two Lenses, No Blind Spots

The main advantage of the Tapo C645D KIT is the combination of two independent lenses. The first is a wide-angle lens with a 165° field of view, which constantly monitors a defined area. The second lens is a rotating Pan/Tilt lens – it can rotate horizontally a full 360° and tilt vertically up to 120°. Both lenses capture in 2K resolution (2304 × 1296 pixels), which provides sufficient detail for identifying people or vehicles.

An interesting feature is synchronized motion tracking. As soon as the wide-angle lens detects motion, the rotating telephoto lens automatically focuses on the detected object and tracks it in real-time. This theoretically ensures that you won’t miss any important event. In the Tapo app, you can also move the focus of the rotating lens to a specific location with a single tap on the live preview.

Worry-Free Solar Power

The package includes the Tapo A201 solar panel connected to the camera by a four-meter cable. According to the manufacturer, approximately one hour of direct sunlight per day is sufficient for the camera to function without problems. In case of longer cloudy periods, it has an integrated rechargeable battery with a capacity of 10,000 mAh, which can keep the camera running for up to 120 days under normal operation.

The panel and camera can be installed together, or separated, with the panel placed where it will have better access to sunlight. This gives users flexibility in choosing the installation location – the camera does not necessarily have to be on the sunny side of the house.

AI Detection Without Monthly Fees

The Tapo C645D KIT uses intelligent detection of people, vehicles, and pets, designed to reduce false alerts caused by moving branches or shadows. This feature is available without the need for a paid subscription, which is a welcome difference compared to some competing solutions. Users can set detection zones and notifications directly in the Tapo app, which is available in Czech and Slovak for Android and iOS.

For night recording, the camera offers color night vision with integrated LED lights or an infrared mode for more discreet monitoring. Recordings can be stored locally on a microSD card up to 512 GB, or users can utilize Tapo Care cloud storage, which is subject to a fee.

Connectivity and Durability

The camera supports dual-band Wi-Fi connectivity on both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies. The 5 GHz band offers higher data transfer speeds over shorter distances, while 2.4 GHz provides better signal range. For outdoor use, the device is protected by IP65 certification, so it can withstand rain, dust, and other adverse conditions.

Support for voice assistants Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa, a built-in microphone and speaker for two-way communication, and the option to set up an audible or visual alarm are also standard features.

Who is the camera suitable for?

The Tapo C645D KIT makes sense primarily for those who want to monitor a larger outdoor area without the need to install multiple cameras. The combination of a wide-angle view and a rotating lens can cover, for example, an entire driveway and front garden simultaneously. Solar power will be appreciated by owners of garden sheds, cottages, or anyone who doesn’t want to run cables.

On the other hand, at 5 499 Kč, it is no longer a cheap affair. Those who only need basic monitoring of a smaller area can opt for simpler models from the Tapo series – for example, the Tapo C410 KIT costs 1 799 Kč on Alza.
