Ulefone continues to do what it does best – producing phones that can survive the apocalypse. The new Armor 29 Ultra is another addition to the family of rugged smartphones, this time with a battery that could power a small village. With 21,200 mAh, it’s more like a power bank with a display than a classic mobile phone. But someone simply needs such a monster.

Battery for a week straight

The main selling point is clear – endurance. Ulefone promises 1140 hours of standby time, which is almost 48 days. For calls, the phone is supposed to last 114 hours, and for video playback, 27 hours. Realistically, this means that with normal use, you might charge it once a week. However, you pay a price in terms of dimensions – the phone has a thickness of 33.8 millimeters and weighs 688 grams. That’s more than three regular phones combined.

An interesting feature is 10W reverse charging. The phone can thus serve as a power bank for headphones, watches, or, in an emergency, even another mobile phone. Given the battery capacity, this makes sense – you have energy to spare.

Two Displays and Military-Grade Durability

The Armor 29 Ultra has a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080 × 2400 pixels. That’s the standard you’d expect. More interesting is the second 1.04-inch AMOLED display on the back, which can show notifications, time, or basic information without needing to flip the phone. With such a heavy device, every saved flip is good news for your wrist.

Durability is certified according to IP68/IP69K and MIL-STD-810H standards. The phone can survive water immersion, drops, extreme temperature fluctuations, and dust. Reinforced corners should protect it during falls, which is useful given its weight.

Performance and Special Features

Under the hood, the MediaTek Dimensity 9300+ is at work, which is a surprisingly powerful chipset for a rugged phone. It’s essentially last year’s TOP model. With 16 GB RAM and 1TB storage, you won’t have any issues with performance or space. The processor supports 5G and dual SIM, so you’re covered in terms of connectivity.

Ulefone added a few specialties that specific professions will appreciate. The 64Mpx night vision camera (OV64B sensor) is suitable for adventurers, while the main 50Mpx camera uses a Sony IMX989 sensor. The most bizarre feature is the LED flashlight on the back – 570 individual LED diodes with a power of up to 1000 lumens. That’s no longer a flashlight; it’s a spotlight.

Who is this Monster Designed For

The Armor 29 Ultra is not a phone for everyone. It’s not even a phone for most people. It’s a work tool for specific professions – construction workers, rescuers, soldiers, adventurers, or people working in extreme conditions. If you work in an office and the most extreme situation is when your phone falls off the desk and you don’t have access to a charger for an hour, you don’t need this.

On the other hand, if you’re camping in the wilderness for a week, working on a construction site, or need a phone that can survive anything and doesn’t need to be charged every day, this could be an interesting choice. The price under 1000 dollars (about 23 thousand Czech crowns) is not low, but for specialized hardware with such features, it’s reasonable.

Can you imagine a situation where you would need such a phone?
