A classic home video intercom has one problem: it only works at home. You can now buy the EZVIZ HP7 with code ALZADNY15 for 5,949 CZK instead of 6,999 CZK, and it combines both – an indoor unit with a 7″ touchscreen display and a smart doorbell that calls your mobile phone, wherever you are.

👍 Get it, if you have a family house with a gate or garage doors and want to see and open for visitors even when you’re not home.
🤔 Hesitate, if you are looking for a battery-powered solution – this system requires electrical installation and wired connection of units.
💰 Price: 5,949 CZK for a complete video intercom with two units, an application in Czech, and an SD card slot.

Open the gate from work or vacation

The main difference from a regular video doorbell lies in everything the HP7 controls. The system can switch an electric lock, gate, and garage doors, so when a courier or relatives arrive and you are at work, you can open for them directly from the app on your phone. The indoor unit has a 7″ touchscreen display and functions as a classic home intercom, while the outdoor station offers a 162° wide-angle camera, night vision, microphone, motion sensor, and a nameplate frame.

Smart features go beyond ordinary ringing. The system can detect attempted theft of the outdoor unit, record to an SD card (so you don’t pay for any cloud service), offers two-way communication, and twenty selectable melodies. The EZVIZ application is in Czech, available for Android and iOS, and the system is compatible with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa. It connects via Wi-Fi on both bands, i.e., 2.4 and 5 GHz – this is a detail often missing from competitors and affects video transmission stability.

A practical feature is a temperature sensor and timer, so you can also see the outdoor temperature on the display. The indoor unit is only 1.5 centimeters thin, and its dimensions of 18 × 11 cm make it an elegant piece for a wall in the hallway. The range between units is up to 120 meters, which covers even a larger property.

Expect to need an electrician

This is crucial information to check beforehand: The HP7 is mains-powered, and the units are wired together. It is therefore not a device that you hang on the door and pair via Wi-Fi – it requires electrical installation and a cable between the outdoor and indoor units. If you are building or renovating, it is ideal; if you just want to replace an existing doorbell in an apartment, it will be more complicated. In the Alza advisory section, there were nineteen questions, mainly concerning wiring and compatibility with existing installations – it’s worth going through them before purchasing.

Second note: the system is closed, so you cannot expand it with devices from other brands – you remain within the EZVIZ ecosystem. A rating of 4.4 out of 5 from 28 customers with fourteen written reviews is solid, but not flawless.

Do you have a video intercom at home, or is a regular doorbell enough for you?
