Although the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 will not arrive on the market until next year, the first concrete information about the improvements it will bring is already emerging. According to fresh leaks from the Korean press, the South Korean manufacturer is preparing to eliminate three of the current generation’s biggest weaknesses – insufficient battery capacity, a visible display crease, and missing stylus support. The successor to the successful Galaxy Z Fold7 model could thus represent one of the most significant upgrades in the history of this series.

Finally a larger battery (after four years of stagnation)

Samsung has been using the same battery capacity in its Folds since 2021. All models from the Galaxy Z Fold3 to the current seventh generation feature a 4,400 mAh cell, which is less than most conventional smartphones. According to the Korean server Dealsite, the Galaxy Z Fold8 will finally change this situation – it is said to get a battery with a capacity exceeding 5,000 mAh.

Higher battery capacity has been one of the most frequent user requests, especially since competing Chinese foldables offer much larger cells (see the new Honor Magic V5). While Samsung won’t completely catch up with the competition, it will at least partially reduce this handicap. A larger battery should ensure comfortable all-day endurance even with more intensive use of the large inner display.

Laser technology is expected to solve the crease problem

One of the most interesting innovations will be the implementation of laser technology in hinge manufacturing. This is reportedly expected to reduce the visibility of the display crease. Instead of traditional chemical etching, the laser will precisely form the microstructure of the hinge, allowing for better pressure distribution during bending.

Interestingly, Apple is also expected to use the same technology in its first foldable iPhone. Samsung thus wants to have this innovation ready before it enters direct competition with Apple in the premium foldable market. The visible crease remains one of the last arguments of foldable phone critics, so its elimination could attract new customers.

Return of the S Pen stylus?

The Galaxy Z Fold7 came without S Pen stylus support due to the pursuit of the thinnest possible design, which drew negative reactions from some users. Samsung has listened to the criticism, and the stylus may return with the eighth generation. It is not yet clear whether the phone will include a slot for storing the pen directly in the body or if it will stick to an external solution with a case.

S Pen support is a key feature for many professionals, distinguishing the Galaxy Z Fold from the competition. The stylus allows for precise note-taking, sketching, or signing documents directly on the large inner display. Its absence in the seventh generation was a step backward that Samsung intends to rectify next year.

When will the Galaxy Z Fold8 be unveiled?

Samsung is traditionally expected to unveil the new generation of foldables in the summer of next year. A launch is anticipated between July and August 2026, alongside the Galaxy Z Flip8 model. However, it is still too early for speculation about the exact date.
