Chinese giant Xiaomi officially unveiled the Xiaomi 17 series on September 25. It includes the base model, the more equipped 17 Pro, and the giant 17 Pro Max. The manufacturer thus definitively confirmed that it will skip the number 16 and follow up on last year’s fifteen. All phones are united by HyperOS 3, the new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, and an emphasis on Leica cameras.

Three models for different users

The base Xiaomi 17 is intended to be the “most powerful compact flagship” in the company’s history. The 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max models, on the other hand, target more demanding users and bring, among other things, a large rear display. It occupies roughly a third of the back and surrounds the camera module – it can display notifications, widgets, and custom themes, and of course, it allows taking selfies with the main cameras. Compared to the legendary Mi 11 Ultra, it’s a significantly larger area.

Compact Flagship Xiaomi 17

The new device features a 6.3″ LTPO OLED display (1.5K, 120 Hz, up to 3500 nits), extremely thin bezels (1.18 mm), and Dragon Crystal Glass protection. The phone meets IP68 certification. Inside, it’s powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset with up to 16 GB RAM and UFS 4.1 storage up to 1 TB. Cooling is handled by a new “ring cold pump” system, which is said to be three times more efficient than conventional vapor chambers.

The battery has a capacity of 7000 mAh, supports 100W wired and 50W wireless charging, as well as reverse (22.5 W). Xiaomi promises a five-year lifespan and durability even in freezing temperatures. The camera setup includes 3× 50 Mpx (main Light Fusion 950, ultrawide, and telephoto lens with 2.6× zoom), and the selfie camera also has 50 Mpx.

The price in China starts at 4499 yuan (approx. 13,100 CZK) for the 12/256 GB version. Available colors are Snow Mountain Pink, Ice Melt Blue, black, and white.

Xiaomi 17 Pro: rear display and thinner body

The 17 Pro model is based on the smaller 6.3″ format but adds a rear “Magic Back Screen” with 3500 nits brightness. The display is covered by Dragon Crystal Glass and serves not only for personalization but also for practical notifications. The phone is only 8 mm thin and houses a compact motherboard – the smallest in Xiaomi’s history.

The camera equipment includes a new 50Mpx Light Hunter 950L sensor with LOFIC technology and a dynamic range of 16.5 EV, a 50Mpx ultrawide lens, and a 50Mpx Leica Floating periscope with a 115 mm focal length. The battery has a capacity of 6300 mAh, supports 100W wired and 50W wireless charging. UWB technology is also available.

The price starts at 4999 yuan (approx. 14,600 CZK). Color variants include Forest Green, Cold Smoke Purple, and classic black and white.

Xiaomi 17 Pro Max: giant display and “King of Backlighting”

The top model features a 6.9″ LTPO OLED display TCL M10 with Super Pixel technology and 120Hz refresh rate. Protection is provided by the third generation of Dragon Crystal Glass. The rear screen behaves the same as on the Pro model but offers more space for widgets and portraits.

The main highlight is the Light Hunter 950L sensor with a dynamic range of 16.5 EV, complemented by a 50Mpx ultrawide camera and a 50Mpx GN8 periscope with 5× optical zoom. The battery has a capacity of 7500 mAh and new L-stack technology with an increased silicon content. Charging is the same as with smaller models (100/50 W).

The price starts at 5999 yuan (approx. 17,500 CZK). The model is currently exclusive to China.

Availability and Outlook

While the Xiaomi 17 will reach global markets early next year (likely February or March 2026), the 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max models will remain exclusive to the Chinese market. The arrival of the Xiaomi 17 Ultra camera phone is also expected, which should arrive in early 2026.

Would you prefer the smaller Xiaomi 17 flagship, or would you go straight for the Pro/Pro Max equipped with a rear display?
