Chinese giant Xiaomi has just announced the launch date of its new flagship series Xiaomi 17. The trio of anticipated phones will be unveiled in China on Thursday, September 25 at 7:00 PM local time (1:00 PM Central European Time). The manufacturer has thus definitively confirmed that it will skip the number 16 and directly follow last year’s Xiaomi 15 generation.

Three models for different needs

This time, Xiaomi will bet on a trio of models that will cover different segments of the premium market. The basic Xiaomi 17 will represent the entry point into the flagship series, while the Xiaomi 17 Pro and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max models will target more demanding users with an emphasis on premium features. The brand itself is also enticing with more advanced cameras for the two higher-end models, although we know that the best will arrive early next year with the Xiaomi 17 Ultra model.

Rear display as the main attraction

The Xiaomi 17 Pro and Pro Max models will primarily attract attention with their large rear display, which we recently introduced. The secondary screen will occupy approximately one-third of the phone’s rear side and will fully surround the cameras. It will be a significantly larger display than on the legendary Mi 11 Ultra from 2021.

The rear display will enable taking selfies with the main cameras, displaying notifications, and various widgets. Users will be able to choose from different themes and customize the displayed information according to their preferences.

New generation of HyperOS system

All three models will receive the latest version of the HyperOS 3 operating system, which Xiaomi will introduce along with the phones. An improved user interface, deeper integration of artificial intelligence, and a new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor are expected.

Availability outside China

The Xiaomi 17 series is expected to arrive in Europe early next year, likely in February or March 2026. In our market, we will traditionally see the basic Xiaomi 17 model and the later-introduced camera phone Xiaomi 17 Ultra. The Pro and Pro Max models will most likely remain exclusive to the Chinese market.
