Xiaomi 17T awaits huge improvements! The base model will get a powerful chip and a large battery

  • Xiaomi 17T will get a 6,500 mAh battery, which is a thousand more than last year's 15T model
  • The camera remains exactly the same as last year – 50MP main with OIS, 50MP telephoto, and 12MP ultrawide
  • Performance will be boosted by the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 chipset, but charging remains at 67 W – the phone is expected in September

January is barely behind us, and Xiaomi is already planning the next generation of its T-series. According to a leak from the HyperOS 3 source code, the first details about the upcoming Xiaomi 17T are beginning to emerge, which is traditionally expected to arrive on the market at the end of September. While Xiaomi is betting on improvements in some aspects, elsewhere the company seems to be sticking to the motto “if it works, don’t fix it.”

The biggest new feature is expected to be an increase in battery capacity to 6,500 mAh. This is an increase of a full 1,000 mAh compared to last year’s Xiaomi 15T, which had a 5,500 mAh battery. Given that the current trend is towards larger batteries, this is a logical step.

Less pleasant is the news that charging remains at 67 W. While Xiaomi is among the manufacturers capable of fast charging, flagship models receive 90 or even 100 W, while the mid-range remains conservative. With a 6,500 mAh battery and 67 W charging, you can expect a charging time of around 50 to 60 minutes, which is not a bad value at all.

According to the leak, the camera remains absolutely identical to last year’s model. The Xiaomi 17T is expected to offer a 50MP main sensor with optical image stabilization (OIS), a 50MP telephoto lens with 2× optical zoom, and a 12MP ultrawide lens. On paper, it looks decent, but it’s the same setup offered by the current model since September last year.

The positive news is the deployment of the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 chipset. Last year’s model has the Dimensity 8400, which is a solid chip, but the Dimensity 9400 is much more powerful and was even used in (pre-)last year’s TOP flagships.

It’s a 3nm chipset with high performance and good energy efficiency, so the combination with a large battery makes sense. If Xiaomi sets the price reasonably, the 17T could appeal to customers looking for a powerful phone with long battery life but who don’t want to spend 20,000 (CZK) on a flagship.

The leaks come from the same source that provided information about the POCO X8 Pro and originate from the code in HyperOS 3. This suggests that Xiaomi is indeed working on these models, however, there is still more than half a year until the official launch. A lot can change during that time.

Is a larger battery and faster chipset enough for you, or would you expect more?
