Xiaomi globally introduced a new smart lock. You unlock it with a fingerprint and it supports Matter Home News Xiaomi globally introduced the Self-Install Smart Lock for drill-free installation It supports Matter, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth, working within major smart home ecosystems It offers fingerprint, codes, auto-lock, and detailed notifications via Wi-Fi app Sdílejte: Adam Kurfürst Published: 21. 10. 2025 04:30 Advertisement Xiaomi has expanded its smart home portfolio with the new Self-Install Smart Lock. It targets users who want convenient and secure keyless unlocking, but at the same time do not want to drill or replace door hardware. It offers easy installation, long battery life, and connectivity with major ecosystems via the Matter standard. Installation without door modification The Self-Install Smart Lock is designed to be fitted onto an existing cylinder or knob without drilling or replacing hardware. You can use screws or the included tape for fastening, and the lock mechanically rests against the key or spindle, so you don’t alter the door’s structure. Compatibility covers European and other common cylinder standards (Euro profile, Scandinavian, Swiss, and selected British types). The Xiaomi Home app guides you through choosing the correct adapter and reminds you of necessary tolerances – for example, cylinder protrusion or minimum depth for secure attachment. Unlock your way: fingerprint, codes, app, and voice For quick entry, a semiconductor fingerprint reader with a stated recognition accuracy of 99.3% is available. Additionally, you have permanent, one-time, and periodic codes on the keypad, Bluetooth unlocking from your phone, and the option for remote unlocking via the app. A backup mechanical key remains a given. Voice control works via Apple Home, Google Home, and Amazon Alexa within the Matter standard. For security reasons, it requires PIN confirmation for Alexa/Google; for Siri, the action occurs only after unlocking the phone and successful voice recognition. A virtual password allows you to surround the correct PIN with arbitrary numbers to prevent it from being “peeked at”. Smart connectivity, automatic locking, and notifications Built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth keep the lock online in the Xiaomi Home app. From your phone, you can check the door status, review logs, set access permissions, and receive notifications for an unclosed door (with a door sensor), multiple incorrect attempts, or “duress” unlocking with a registered emergency fingerprint. The Auto-lock function ensures that after closing the door and sensor detection, the lock will automatically lock itself after a chosen delay. If you don’t use the sensor, timed automatic locking can be activated after unlocking. From the outside, you can quickly lock or unlock the door at any time with a single press. Durability, battery life, and security The keypad has IP65 protection against dust and splashing water and features a hidden anti-tamper switch that triggers an alarm and notification if an attempt is made to remove it. The lock has undergone stress cycles of opening/closing and temperature resistance tests ranging from −10 to 55 °C to handle common household conditions. Power is provided by a 2,450 mAh Li-ion battery with a typical battery life of up to around six months under standard operation. The app monitors the power status and provides timely alerts for recharging or replacing batteries in accessories, so the lock won’t surprise you at an inconvenient moment. Ecosystems and security from chip to cloud Thanks to Matter certification, the lock integrates across platforms, allowing you to incorporate it into scenes – lock when leaving, turn off lights, or activate an alarm. Multi-ecosystem mode ensures that access and notifications will function consistently throughout the smart home. Inside, a MJA1 security chipset is running, and communication is end-to-end encrypted. The product boasts European cybersecurity certification EN18031, and in the app, you can set roles and permissions for household members, guests, and one-time visitors with precisely defined timeframes. Who it makes sense for The Xiaomi Self-Install Smart Lock will be appreciated by anyone who doesn’t want to drill into their door but still desires convenient and secure keyless unlocking. Thanks to its combination of unlocking methods using fingerprint, codes, and mobile, it simplifies the daily routine even in busy households. It’s also an excellent choice for users of Xiaomi Home, Apple Home, Google Home, and Alexa who want to unify the lock with other devices and utilize scenarios, guest access, and detailed logs. If you require simple installation, broad compatibility, and an emphasis on security, this is exactly it. Will it come to us too? Xiaomi has not yet revealed how much the new smart lock will cost or in which specific markets it will be available. However, since it appeared on the manufacturer’s global website, it is likely that it will eventually arrive in our region. What is your experience with smart locks?
