Xiaomi has initiated a power bank recall due to fire risk. Do you happen to own one?

Xiaomi has initiated a global recall of its power bank with an integrated cable, the 33W Power Bank 20000mAh (Integrated Cable). A warning about a potential safety risk has also appeared on the company’s Czech website. The problem concerns units manufactured between August and September 2024, which, due to defective materials from suppliers, may cause severe battery overheating in certain situations.

Defective Materials Cause Overheating

According to the company’s official statement, the problem concerns the power bank designated as PB2030MI, which is commonly available on the market under the name Xiaomi 33W Power Bank 20000mAh (Integrated Cable). The company identified a defect in some materials from its suppliers, which allegedly can lead to power bank failure under certain conditions. The most serious risk is battery overheating, which in extreme cases poses a fire hazard. Power banks manufactured outside the critical period of August to September 2024 are not affected by the problem.

Xiaomi Initiated the Recall Itself

Jan Kužník, spokesperson for Xiaomi’s Czech representation, confirmed to Svět Androida’s editorial team that a very limited number of units were affected. The company discovered the problem during internal inspections and itself initiated the product return option.

The power bank is sold on the Czech market in two color variants – beige and blue. Customers who purchased the product during the critical period can use a special form on Xiaomi’s website to receive a full refund of the purchase price.

How to Proceed with a Return

Owners of the Xiaomi 33W Power Bank 20000mAh (Integrated Cable) should check if the problem affects their unit. A tool on the aforementioned website can be used to verify the device’s serial number. Its location on the back of the power bank may vary depending on the market it was intended for, but it is always marked as “SN”. A guide on the brand’s website will help you find it.
