Xiaomi has sent another smart refrigerator to Europe. It's great for larger households and can be controlled by mobile phone.

Xiaomi is no longer just a manufacturer of phones and fitness trackers. For the past few years, the Chinese brand has been systematically occupying living rooms and kitchens, and now it’s adding another large appliance to its catalog. Along with the Mijia Top Load Washer 13kg, the company globally launched the Mijia Refrigerator Side-by-Side 621L, which targets larger families and households connected to a smart home ecosystem. In Italy, Xiaomi is asking 849 euros for it, which is roughly 20,600 CZK.

Over 600 liters divided into 18 compartments

The main attraction of the new product is its capacity. The total volume of 621 liters is divided into a 385-liter refrigerator and a 236-liter freezer, with the interior divided into 18 compartments. You’ll find two rows of separate drawers, four open shelves, and double-row shelves with deeper storage on the sides of the doors, which can accommodate two rows of cans or taller bottles.

A practical detail is the 90° door opening, which allows the refrigerator to be placed flush against a side wall without the doors blocking access to the drawers. The surface is made of brushed stainless steel lacquer, which is designed to better resist fingerprints and minor scratches. However, the dimensions of 910 × 715 × 1,770 mm (width × depth × height) reveal that it is a substantial piece of furniture that will require its own space in the kitchen.

Antibacterial Ag⁺ now also in the freezer

With the new refrigerator, Xiaomi emphasizes Ag⁺ Fresh technology, an antibacterial module with silver ions that is designed to limit the proliferation of bacteria such as E. coli and neutralize odors. Crucially, this time it acts throughout the entire interior, including the freezer, whereas with many earlier Xiaomi models, it only worked in the cooling section.

Even cooling is ensured by a No Frost system with multi-channel air circulation and four temperature sensors. The manufacturer states the ability to freeze 14 kg of food in 24 hours. A dual inverter with a declared noise level of 35 dB ensures quiet and more economical operation. Xiaomi has not yet disclosed the energy class for the global version.

Control via app and voice

Like every appliance from the Xiaomi stable, this refrigerator also connects to the Xiaomi Home app. From your phone, you can remotely change the temperature, switch cooling modes, and receive notifications if the doors remain open. The refrigerator supports over-the-air (OTA) updates and can also be controlled by voice via Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa. A LED touch panel and upper LED interior lighting are also present directly on the device.

How does it differ from the Cross Door 502L model available in the Czech Republic?

Tady přichází zádrhel. Side-by-Side 621L se zatím na český e-shop Xiaomi nedostala a u nás tak koupíte jen menší a starší Mijia Refrigerator Cross Door 502L za 15 999 Kč. Rozdíly mezi oběma modely přitom nejsou jen v ceně a objemu.

Novinka je prostornější (621 vs 502 l), má Ag⁺ ochranu i v mrazáku a je o něco tišší (35 vs 38 dB). Cross Door 502L naopak nabízí něco, co u větší sestry chybí: konvertibilní zónu i Fresh s teplotou nastavitelnou od −1 do 5 °C, ideální pro maso a ryby. Menší model je také užší a méně hluboký (852 × 600 mm proti 910 × 715 mm), takže se snáz vejde do stísněnější kuchyně, byť za cenu větší výšky.

Who will the new refrigerator be suitable for?

The Mijia Side-by-Side 621L is a clear choice if you want the largest possible volume and appreciate antibacterial protection also in the freezer, along with quieter operation. Even with an extra charge of approximately 4,600 CZK compared to the 502L model, you sacrifice something: the flexible i Fresh zone is missing, and the wider and deeper construction demands more space. Those who store a lot of fresh meat and fish or struggle with a smaller kitchen will paradoxically be happier with the cheaper and more cleverly designed Cross Door 502L model. And since the new product has not yet reached Czech retailers, this consideration is currently more theoretical. Until Xiaomi confirms domestic availability and price, the 502L remains the only refrigerator from the manufacturer that you can actually buy here.
