The new product appeared on Chinese platforms, including Mi Home, and primarily attracts with its combination of a large 4K display and a 144Hz refresh rate at a price unparalleled in the segment of cheap televisions. For less than 4,500 CZK in conversion, Chinese customers get parameters that cost significantly more from competitors. 50" panel with 4K resolution and 144Hz mode Hardware matches the low price HyperOS and smart home Price and availability 50″ panel with 4K resolution and 144Hz mode The Redmi Smart TV A50 is equipped with a 50-inch LCD panel with a resolution of 3840 × 2160 pixels. Xiaomi uses direct-lit backlighting, which ensures uniform brightness across the entire screen surface. The TV supports the display of 10.7 billion colors and True Tone technology for balanced color reproduction. An interesting feature is the support for a 144Hz refresh rate, which, however, only works when a source is connected via HDMI – typically a game console or computer. While it has no practical significance for regular TV viewing or streaming services, gamers will certainly appreciate this feature. There is also an eye protection mode that reduces screen flickering during prolonged viewing. Hardware matches the low price Under the hood, a quad-core Cortex-A35 processor ticks in combination with a Mali-G31 MP2 graphics chip. The configuration of 2 GB RAM and 32 GB storage is sufficient for basic use, but it is certainly no performance powerhouse. It’s enough for smooth menu navigation and launching streaming applications, but don’t expect more demanding tasks from this TV. A certain disappointment might be the support for only 2.4GHz Wi-Fi – the 5GHz band is missing here, which can cause problems when streaming 4K content in a crowded environment. Physical connectivity, on the other hand, is solid: there are 2× HDMI (one with ARC), 2× USB-A, an Ethernet port, AV input, and an optical S/PDIF output. HyperOS and smart home The TV runs on the Xiaomi HyperOS operating system, which replaces the previous MIUI for TV. The system brings optimized startup and smoother application performance. Integration with the Mi Home ecosystem is a given, allowing the TV to be used as a hub for controlling the smart home. There is also support for the voice assistant Xiao AI and the Xiaomi MiaoPlay function for wireless content playback from a phone. The audio is handled by a pair of 10W speakers with a total output of 20 W. Price and availability The Redmi Smart TV A50 in the highest energy efficiency edition (Energy Efficiency Level 1) is sold in China for 1,399 yuan, which corresponds to approximately 4,300 CZK. Whether the new model will ever make it to European markets is not yet clear. While Xiaomi brings many of its televisions to Europe, the cheapest models usually remain exclusive to the Chinese market. Would you buy such a cheap TV from Xiaomi?
