The renowned Chinese leaker Digital Chat Station has come forward with information that will delight anyone craving a phone with extreme endurance. According to him, Xiaomi is working on a smartphone with a 9,000mAh battery, which will also support 100W fast charging. Even more ambitious is his mention of a prototype under development with a capacity of even 10,000 mAh.

Record capacity in a compact body?

For context, the recently introduced Redmi K90 Pro Max features a 7,560mAh battery, yet measures only 7.9 mm in thickness. This suggests that Xiaomi, thanks to new silicon-carbon cells, can fit an enormous capacity into a relatively thin body. If a similar thickness can be maintained for the upcoming 9,000 mAh model, it will be a technical marvel.

As highlighted by GSMArena, some Chinese sources speculate that the mysterious new device could be the Redmi Turbo 5. However, this reportedly contradicts previous leaks that attributed a 7,500mAh battery to this model.

Availability outside China is uncertain

Unfortunately, there is a high risk that a phone with such a capacity will not be released outside the Chinese market. In the past, Xiaomi has modified the global versions of its phones – models with advanced silicon-carbon batteries often arrived in Europe with significantly smaller capacities than their Chinese counterparts.

However, if a phone with a 9,000 or even 10,000mAh battery were to reach our market, it would be another significant advancement. Even currently, you can find models with capacities exceeding 10,000 mAh on the market, but they are mostly “bricks with a display,” as I like to call them. The idea of having such a large cell in a traditionally looking mobile phone of normal dimensions is therefore very appealing.

Would you welcome a phone with a 9,000mAh battery, even if it were a bit thicker?
