Xiaomi announced a recall for 116,887 SU7 Standard Edition electric vehicles manufactured between February 6, 2024, and August 30, 2025. According to media reports, the information was released by China’s State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) and confirmed by the automaker itself. CnEVPost server writes that the mentioned number represents approximately one-third of all SU7 series vehicles sold to date.

Deficiencies in the driving assistance system

The reason for the recall is deficiencies in the L2 assistance system software, which, when the high-speed piloted driving function is activated, may not adequately recognize, warn, or react to emerging situations in extreme conditions. If the driver does not intervene in time, it can lead to an increased risk of collision.

According to media reports, the problem may be related to a tragic accident at the end of March 2025, in which an SU7 Standard crashed into a highway barrier, and three people died. According to Xiaomi’s statement at the time, the assistance system was deactivated one second before the impact.

Solution via Over-the-Air Update

Xiaomi will resolve the problem with a free software update to HyperOS 1.10.0, which will be distributed over-the-air (OTA). Car owners do not need to visit a service center, as no physical components need to be replaced.

In this case, a recall is the official term for a mandatory fix of a serious safety flaw, so it does not imply the need to bring vehicles to a service center. This process emphasizes the manufacturer’s legal responsibility to eliminate the collision risk that existed in the software. At the same time, the Chinese regulatory authority gains oversight of the process.

The update brings optimization of the speed control strategy during assisted driving and a new dynamic speed function that adjusts vehicle speed according to conditions such as rain or night driving. The system also better recognizes large vehicles and can overtake them with greater anticipation.

Xiaomi Sold Over 300,000 SU7 Vehicles

The SU7 model was launched on March 28, 2024 and quickly became a popular electric vehicle in China. By the end of August 2025, total sales of the SU7 series reached 339,421 units, according to CnEVPost, representing almost 89% of all Xiaomi EV brand sales.

The recall applies only to the Standard variant, not the Pro and Max versions. Xiaomi emphasized in its statement that user safety is a priority for the company and that this is a preventive step to increase the reliability of assistance systems.
