When Xiaomi showed off the glass design of the HyperOS 4 overlay this week, the biggest question remained who would actually be able to enable the new look. According to a recent leak, it might have remained exclusive to models with the most modern flagship chipsets. The official list of supported devices, which the manufacturer has now published, is definitely more positive, but it still seems that cheaper smartphones will not get it.

The list also includes phones with older processors

An earlier leak, which we wrote about, predicted a very pessimistic scenario: according to it, the most beautiful glass effects would only run on devices with the latest flagship chips – specifically naming Snapdragon 8 Elite and newer, Xiaomi’s own Xring O1 and O3 chips, and MediaTek Dimensity 9500 and above. However, the official list is noticeably more generous. It also includes several-year-old flagship models that do not have any of these chips – for example, the Xiaomi 13 series with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 from late 2022 or Redmi K70.

According to Xiaomi, these device groups will be able to enable the glass effect in the Chinese beta.

  • Flagship Xiaomi 17, 17T, 15, 14, and 13
  • Foldable Xiaomi MIX Fold 4 and 3, as well as MIX Flip 2 and the first MIX Flip
  • Redmi K100 Pro, K90, K80, and K70 (excluding the more power-efficient K70E)
  • Redmi Turbo 5 Max, Turbo 5, and Turbo 4 Pro, plus Xiaomi Civi 5 Pro
  • Tablets Xiaomi Pad 8 (Pro), Pad 7 Ultra, Pad 7S Pro, and Redmi K Pad 2 as well as K Pad

However, this list is currently exclusively for the Chinese market. We assume that European variants of the mentioned models or POCO rebrands should also receive the glass design.

Who, on the other hand, is out of luck?

Although the current news is more positive than previous ones, the glass design still appears to be a privilege of more expensive series. Models like Redmi Note or cheaper POCO phones are nowhere on the list. Owners of affordable phones will likely not see the new embellishment.

Moreover, everything currently applies only to the Chinese beta, which is rolling out in waves. Xiaomi has not specified when and in what form the glass HyperOS 4 will arrive on global and Czech phones – the global version of the overlay typically comes with a delay of several months.

Do you own any of the supported models?
