Xiaomi's new camera will be affordable and offer several interesting features. Can your current one cover the lens at a desired time?

Xiaomi has expanded its smart home device portfolio with the new security camera Smart Camera C302. Compared to the C301 model, which is also sold in the Czech Republic for less than a thousand crowns, the new product brings a few interesting improvements, including Wi-Fi 6 support and the ability to schedule automatic lens cover at specific times. The camera does not yet have confirmed availability on the Czech market, but given the global presentation, it could reach us in the coming months.

Sharper image thanks to a 3Mpx sensor

The Xiaomi Smart Camera C302 features a 3Mpx sensor with a resolution of 2304 × 1296 pixels, capturing images in 2K quality. Thanks to its dual-axis motor, the camera can rotate 360° horizontally and 107° vertically, allowing for monitoring of the entire room from a single location. For night recordings, it uses a combination of color night vision with a sensitive image sensor and six infrared LEDs that do not emit visible light.

Physical lens cover protects privacy

An interesting feature is the physical lens cover – the camera can retract the lens upwards into the device body. This function can be scheduled, so the lens automatically covers itself, for example, when you are home. For data security, the camera uses a MJA1 security chip with financial institution-level protection, and all AI processing takes place locally directly on the camera, not in the cloud.

Local AI recognizes people, animals, and sounds

The camera offers a range of AI functions processed locally. It can detect a baby’s cry and immediately send a notification to your phone. Similarly, it recognizes pets (specifically dogs and cats) and tracks their movement around the room. Person detection with automatic tracking ensures that the camera automatically rotates its lens to follow moving people.

Other features include a virtual fence, which alerts upon entry or exit from a defined zone, custom detection zones for monitoring specific areas, and abnormal sound detection such as glass breaking. All these functions must be manually activated in the Xiaomi Home app.

Wi-Fi 6 and voice assistant support

Compared to the previous C301 model, the new product brings Wi-Fi 6 support, which ensures a more stable connection and higher transfer speeds. The camera supports Bluetooth pairing for easy setup and two-way voice communication via the built-in speaker. It can be controlled via the Xiaomi Home app or voice assistants Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant.

For recording storage, you can use microSD cards with a capacity of 8-256 GB or cloud storage. Thanks to H.265 encoding, recordings take up 50% less space than with older H.264 technology. The camera supports both table and ceiling mounting with automatic image rotation.
