Xiaomi's washer-dryer features a heat pump for the first time. It reportedly saves almost three-quarters of electricity during drying

A washer and dryer in one saves space in the bathroom, but classic condenser drying can really make the electricity meter spin. Xiaomi now wants to tackle this weakness, following the example of traditional manufacturers: the new Mijia washer-dryer washes up to 13 kg of laundry (and dries 9 kg) and is equipped with a heat pump, thanks to which, according to the manufacturer, it consumes significantly less energy. It is currently sold only in China.

How does a heat pump save electricity?

A condenser dryer heats air with a heating coil, and a large part of the heat is then wasted when moisture is removed. A heat pump, on the other hand, recycles heat in a closed circuit – it cools moist air with a refrigerant to condense water from it, and the removed heat then reheats it. Thanks to the lower drying temperature, it is also gentler on clothes.

The model with the long name Mijia Delicate Wash Pro Supreme Edition is said by Xiaomi to consume 73% less electricity than a condenser washer-dryer. The slower drying, which is usually associated with a heat pump, is compensated by a pair of fans, thanks to which laundry will be 49% drier faster. The pump is located in the upper part of the appliance, and the modified refrigerant circuit is said to improve heat transfer by 59%. However, these are the manufacturer’s own figures, who does not specify what exactly they are comparing with, so take them with a grain of salt.

What else can it do besides energy-efficient drying?

There are 35 washing and drying programs to choose from, plus 11 care programs, and a double-layer filter catches lint and small impurities. Washing is based on a technology Xiaomi calls superelectrolysis: according to the manufacturer, water electrolysis is supposed to remove 20 types of stubborn stains and whiten yellowed clothes in a single wash, and it reportedly eliminates 99% of bacteria in cold water.

More interesting is the program selection. The washing machine relies on Xiaomi’s own algorithms and a large language model, so you just need to describe what you’re putting in the drum – for example, a white cotton shirt with a coffee stain – and the system will recommend the appropriate program and settings. It can be controlled via the Xiaomi Home app or the brand’s smart speakers, and you can monitor the washing progress remotely from your phone.

Price and Availability

The recommended price is approximately 20,800 CZK (6,499 yuan). However, it is currently sold in Xiaomi stores and on the Youpin platform for approximately 18,800 CZK (5,881 yuan). For comparison – the previous Mijia Washing Machine Pro model with a washing capacity of 12 kg and drying capacity of 9 kg cost approximately 11,300 CZK (3,528 yuan) at its January launch.

Whether the new product will come to Europe, Xiaomi has not yet said. However, the brand’s washing machines have been arriving in our market more and more frequently in recent months; most recently, we wrote about a compact 7kg model for approximately seven thousand crowns.
