Xiaomi Smart Camera C201 will be a new, cheaper camera. It boasts color night vision, flexible rotation, and human detection

Xiaomi has expanded its range of smart home devices with the new Smart Camera C201 security camera. The new product appeared on the manufacturer’s global website, indicating an imminent launch in world markets, including Europe. Although the official price is not yet known, it is expected to be under 1,000 CZK, which would place the camera among the most affordable models on the market.

The camera comes with a rather lower FullHD

The Xiaomi Smart Camera C201 features a 2Mpx sensor with FullHD resolution of 1920 × 1080 pixels, which is a rather lower value (today, most new models probably have at least 2K). If necessary, the lens can be covered with a physical cap. The camera also includes a security chip MJA1 with a unique encryption key for each device.

For data security, the new device uses complete transmission encryption and AES-128 protection for cloud recordings. In the Xiaomi Home app, you can set a schedule for when the camera should be active or in sleep mode.

Local AI recognizes people and pets

The camera uses a local artificial intelligence algorithm for human detection, which operates directly on the device without sending data to the cloud. The system immediately detects movement, automatically tracks the detected person, and sends notifications to the owner’s phone. In addition to people, the camera can also recognize and track cats and dogs, which pet owners will appreciate.

The Xiaomi Smart Camera C201 also supports two-way HD calls initiated from the mobile application. The device includes a large-diameter speaker with an independent chamber and a microphone with intelligent ambient noise cancellation. This ensures that voices during remote communication sound loud and clear.

Panoramic monitoring and night vision

Thanks to a two-axis motor, the camera lens rotates 360° horizontally and 106° vertically. Control is done remotely via the phone app, so you can monitor any corner of the room. Smooth rotation ensures complete coverage of the space with a single camera without blind spots.

For night monitoring, the camera offers two modes. The first uses six infrared LEDs for black and white images without visible light, which does not disturb the sleep of household members. The second mode, thanks to a sensitive image sensor, maintains a color image for longer even in low light conditions.

Wi-Fi 6 and voice assistant support

The new device is equipped with a Wi-Fi 6 chip for more stable connection and higher transfer speeds. Pairing with a phone is done via Bluetooth for quick setup. The camera is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, so you can control it with voice commands.

Recordings are stored on a microSD card with a capacity of 8 to 256 GB or in Xiaomi cloud storage. Thanks to modern H.265 encoding, videos take up half the space compared to using the older H.264 standard.

Flexible mounting and simple installation

The Xiaomi Smart Camera C201 can be placed on a table or mounted on the ceiling. For ceiling mounting, simply activate 180° image rotation in the Xiaomi Home app. Camera setup is done in three steps – download the app, power on the camera, and scan the QR code on the bottom of the device.

Although Xiaomi has not yet announced the exact availability date or final price, its global launch indicates an imminent arrival in European markets. With an expected price under 1,000 CZK, the Smart Camera C201 could become one of the most affordable smart cameras with advanced features.
