Xiaomi Smart Door Lock 2 Cat Eye edition

Xiaomi is expanding its smart home portfolio with a new edition of the lock Xiaomi Smart Door Lock 2 Large Screen Cat Eye Edition. The new product, introduced in China, as the name suggests, builds on the previous model but adds a larger display, a wide-angle camera, night vision, and advanced unlocking options.

Similar to the previous model, this lock offers a truly wide range of unlocking methods, a total of 19. In addition to the classic fingerprint, which can recognize an authorized user in less than half a second with reportedly 99.51% accuracy, it also supports NFC, Bluetooth connection with a smartphone, password, or even a key.

It also includes the so-called “cat eye”, which is a camera with a 160° field of view that automatically recognizes the presence of a person. If someone rings the doorbell, the live image is displayed on the larger internal screen directly on the lock or in the Mijia app, or even on a smart TV.

The new Xiaomi Smart Door Lock 2 edition brings interesting features

The lock with a camera also handles night operation, thanks to IR (infrared) technology. It also supports two-way communication via microphone and speaker, which is linked to another bonus feature: a voice changer that allows you to change your voice when talking to a visitor.

Power is provided by a battery with a minimum lifespan of 6 months, which is unfortunately half as long as the original model. The device is in any case resistant to temperatures ranging from -10 to 55 °C, making it a somewhat reliable choice even in less hospitable conditions.

Regarding availability, this new lock is sold in China for 1 699 jüanů (~ 5 000 Kč). Availability outside of China has not yet been confirmed. Moreover, this is not the only iteration of the original lock; quite recently, the company introduced the Xiaomi Smart Door Lock 2 Finger Vein Recognition Enhanced Edition, which is very similar to this model but still not fully identical.

What do you think of the new edition? Do you think it makes sense?
