Xiaomi Smart Standing Fan 2 Pro: 3 reasons to invest in a truly smart fan

Although summer handed over the scepter to autumn several weeks ago and, along with its oppressive heat, went to sleep, believe it or not, locking up fans for the next three quarters of the year might be unnecessary. 

Indeed, we can find several practical uses for this type of household appliance even during colder months – it can, for example, help you distribute warm air from a source (radiator, fireplace) into the rest of the room or speed up the drying of wet laundry. 

Even though the need to buy a new fan might not be as urgent in autumn, I’d like to share my experiences with the Xiaomi Smart Standing Fan 2 Pro, which could be an ideal choice for the next summer season. Compared to traditional solutions, it offers several features that can significantly enhance your user experience.

Multifunctional and easy-to-assemble design

You first need to assemble the Xiaomi Smart Standing Fan 2 Pro yourself, but I can assure you that with the included manual, the process is very simple – after all, it consists of only six steps. 

However, what impressed me more about the fan itself than how easily I could assemble it was the multifunctionality of its design. Although it is primarily designed to be placed on the floor in a room, you can also place it on a table. The long stand is not made of one, but two parts, so it can be shortened if needed. The only obstacle in this case might be the larger diameter of the base, but if you have extra space on your table, bedside table, or chest of drawers, you will definitely appreciate this option.

Smart features and natural breeze mode

As the product name suggests, the Xiaomi Smart Standing Fan 2 Pro falls into the category of smart fans. It can therefore be connected to a phone application and integrated into existing smart home systems.

Adding the fan to the Xiaomi Home app is truly painless. Immediately after assembly, it appeared in the new device pairing menu, and after selecting my home Wi-Fi network and entering its password, I gained access to all control elements. 

Through your mobile phone, you can not only turn the fan on and off but also control its speed – you can even choose from 100 levels – enable or disable oscillation (i.e., for it to rotate), or even schedule its activation for a specific time in advance. Moreover, if you already have other Xiaomi devices at home, you can connect the Smart Standing Fan 2 Pro with them to create a more complex automation scenario.

In the app, you can also choose between two different breeze modes. In the mode labeled Direct Breeze, the motor constantly operates at the same rotation speed, which you’ll appreciate, for example, when drying laundry as mentioned above, or when it’s really brutally hot in summer and you need to cool down quickly. 

However, for general use in a room, the Natural Wind mode is far more suitable, which, with the help of a special algorithm, tries to simulate a natural breeze – and it does so perhaps surprisingly well. The two-layer blade design also clearly contributes to creating a pleasant effect, where the inner layer blades disrupt the concentrated airflow generated by the outer layer blades.

You’ll appreciate smartphone control not only as a technology enthusiast but also if you’re a parent of small children – in the app, you can set the fan so that it cannot be controlled at all by the physical buttons on the unit, which acts as an effective child lock.

Integrated battery allows for easy portability

I deliberately saved the feature that perhaps surprised me the most for last. If you only saw the Xiaomi Smart Standing Fan 2 Pro in photos, it probably wouldn’t occur to you either, but a set of 33.6Wh lithium-ion batteries is hidden inside the circular base. 

In practice, this means that the fan does not have to be constantly connected to the electrical grid, which allows for easy portability. You can place it practically anywhere, even in the middle of the garden, from where you won’t even see the nearest outlet. Moving it is only slightly complicated by the fact that the entire motor part is relatively heavy and that you would search in vain for wheels on the base. Perhaps even more than wheels, I would appreciate a handle on the design.

In any case, Xiaomi promises that the fan will last up to 18 hours in standard ventilation mode. If you decide to increase the speed to a higher level, you will naturally get a shorter battery life. The rather decent efficiency is due to the brushless DC motor, which provides higher efficiency than a classic aluminum coil. 

The fan charges using a special two-pin charging dock, for which a recess is created in the base. You then plug the adapter into a standard outlet.

Verdict: Who should want such a fan?

Even if the Xiaomi Smart Standing Fan 2 Pro lacked smart features, it would still be a very decent piece of electronics. It boasts a practical design that, thanks to its integrated battery, can be placed literally anywhere. However, as is usually the case, comfort comes at a price, and so this whole gadget will cost you 2,699 CZK.

Compared to the price of classic fans, it’s quite a hefty sum, so everyone must decide before buying whether they will truly utilize the three key features mentioned in this article that make the product unique. If you plan to place the fan in one corner of the room and then not touch it for the rest of its life, you will probably find a better alternative. The same applies if you don’t plan to control the device with your phone at all.

However, if you appreciate the integrated battery and the possibility of integration into a smart home, the Xiaomi Smart Standing Fan 2 Pro is perfect for you and will be able to justify its price quite easily.
