Bluetooth locators have experienced a significant boom in recent years, primarily thanks to Apple’s AirTag, which essentially defined the standard for this entire product category. Xiaomi is now preparing to enter this segment with its own solution called Xiaomi Tag, which is intended to offer similarly designed features at a fraction of the price. Thanks to a series of leaks, some of which come from official sources, we now know practically everything the new product will offer.

Complete specifications thanks to a Danish retailer

The upcoming locator was first reported by leaker Roland Quandt in an article for the German server WinFuture. We managed to find the detailed specifications of the device at the Danish retailer Mistore, which published a complete product page including all parameters on its website.

The Xiaomi Tag with model designation BHR08SPGL will be a gadget measuring 46.5 × 31 × 7.2 mm and weighing only 10 grams. Connectivity will be provided by Bluetooth 5.4 in combination with NFC, and both Google Find Hub and the Apple Find My ecosystem are supported. The locator will therefore be suitable not only for Android phone owners.

It is interesting that the currently leaked version of the Xiaomi Tag does not support UltraWideBand (UWB), which allows for more precise short-range localization. However, mentions of its support previously appeared in the HyperOS system code, so it is possible that Xiaomi will eventually release an improved variant with this technology.

Worth mentioning is the IP67 resistance against dust and water, thanks to which the locator should function reliably even in challenging conditions. The CR2032 type battery is said by the manufacturer to last up to 390 days, which is more than a year of operation on a single charge. Allegedly, no tools will be needed to replace the battery.

Smart features for finding lost items

Xiaomi Tag will offer several useful functions for locating lost items. Light Detection Mode automatically activates the built-in LED at night, making it easier to find keys or a wallet in the dark. The Lost Mode then allows the owner’s contact details to be displayed to anyone who scans the lost item with their phone.

Also practical is the option to set known places – if the locator leaves a defined area, the phone automatically notifies the owner. All location data is encrypted, and protection against unwanted tracking by unknown devices is also available.

Prices that will please

Xiaomi has already published prices on official websites in some European countries (for example, France or Italy). One piece will cost 17.99 euros (approximately 450 CZK), while a pack of four will cost 59.99 euros (about 1,500 CZK).

For comparison: an Apple AirTag costs 790 CZK per piece in the Czech Republic, and a four-pack costs 2,690 CZK. The Xiaomi Tag is therefore approximately twice cheaper. When the product will be officially launched for our market is not yet clear.

Would you get a Xiaomi Tag as an alternative to AirTag?
