Xiaomi unveiled a powerful indoor camera. It features up to 9x zoom, records in 4K, and offers a range of smart functions

Chinese technology giant Xiaomi has expanded its security camera portfolio with the Smart Camera 4 Zoom Edition. This new model is the brand’s first indoor camera to boast image zoom capabilities and is currently available on the Xiaomi Youpin platform, where a crowdfunding campaign will launch on August 20th at 10:00 AM Chinese time. During the campaign, interested buyers can purchase the camera for 399 yuan (approximately 1,200 CZK), with the regular price set at 469 yuan (about 1,400 CZK).

Dual-Lens Setup with Hybrid Zoom

The main advantage of the Smart Camera 4 Zoom Edition is its dual camera system. It combines an 8MP wide-angle sensor with a 5MP telephoto lens, allowing for 9× hybrid zoom. Of this, 3× zoom is optical, with the remainder being digital zoom. Thanks to this combination, the camera can cover a large area of the room while capturing details of distant objects.

The camera records video in 4K resolution and features an aperture of f/1.6. Xiaomi used back-illuminated sensors, which ensure high-quality images in both daylight and low-light conditions. For night vision, 10 infrared LED diodes operating at a wavelength of 940 nm are available – these allow visibility up to 10 meters in the dark without visible red light.

Improved Mechanics and Wide Coverage

Xiaomi has improved the motorized rotation system of the camera by 30% compared to the C700 model. The camera supports a full range of motion – 360° horizontally and 180° vertically, which in practice means the ability to monitor the entire room, including the ceiling. This makes it Xiaomi’s first indoor camera with a vertical coverage of up to 180 degrees.

Advanced AI Features for Smart Home

The Smart Camera 4 Zoom Edition features several AI-based functions. The camera can identify people by body shape and posture, even when their face is not visible. When tracking moving objects, it automatically adjusts the zoom level according to the size of the object in the frame.

Other features include pet tracking, baby crying detection, and automatic zoom upon motion detection. An interesting feature is the ability to initiate a video call using a gesture – simply show an “OK” sign with your hand, and the camera will activate two-way communication.

Connectivity and Storage

For home network connection, the camera supports dual Wi-Fi 6 (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz), ensuring faster and more stable data transmission. Video is encoded using the H.265 codec, which significantly reduces storage requirements while maintaining quality.

Data can be stored in three ways: on a microSD card up to 256 GB capacity, in cloud storage (requires subscription), or on a NAS server. Xiaomi has integrated an MJA1 security chip with EAL5+ certification into the camera, and all data transmissions are encrypted. For privacy protection, a physical lens cover is available.

The camera integrates into the HyperOS ecosystem and the Mi Home app, allowing footage to be viewed on smartphones, tablets, TVs, and even in supported Xiaomi vehicles. The package includes the camera itself, along with a hidden Type-C connector for elegant cable management.

If you don’t want to wait for the potential arrival of the Smart Camera 4 Zoom Edition in Europe, you can opt for the Xiaomi Smart Camera C500 Dual model, which is already available on the Czech market. This camera offers 2560 × 1440 pixel resolution, hybrid night vision, and motorized lens rotation. It features motion and sound detection, pet recognition, and an Auto tracking function for motion monitoring.
