The Chinese company Xiaomi has expanded its home appliance portfolio with new central air conditioning units, the Mijia Central Air Conditioner Super Energy Saving Duct Units. Two variants are available, differing in power and airflow – a smaller 3HP model with an airflow of 1,350 m³/h and a larger 4HP version with 1,580 m³/h. In China, they are sold for 7,499 yuan (approximately 21,900 CZK) and 8,749 yuan (25,600 CZK) respectively.

Wide temperature range and energy-efficient operation

The new air conditioners combine cooling and heating functions with a relatively wide operating range from -35 °C to 60 °C. Xiaomi claims that the device can start heating a room within 60 seconds and even cool it in 30 seconds. However, these figures should be taken with a grain of salt, as the speed of temperature adjustment depends on many factors, including room size.

The smaller 3HP variant boasts an annual performance factor (APF) of 4.72, while the larger 4HP model achieves a value of 4.5. APF indicates the average energy efficiency of the device throughout the year, considering various operating conditions (the higher, the better).

The manufacturer also highlights a proprietary energy-saving algorithm, which, according to their claims, is designed to reduce consumption by 21.8% compared to the same model without this algorithm. However, actual savings will depend on the specific usage.

Smart features with presence detection

The air conditioner comes standard with a wired wall-mounted controller, but a smarter Family Sensor Air Control Panel can be purchased for an additional cost. This panel includes a pair of mmWave radars capable of detecting the presence of people in the room. This allows the air conditioner to automatically switch off when the room is empty or direct airflow directly at people or away from them.

The device supports the HyperOS Connect ecosystem and can be controlled via the Xiaomi app, which also allows for remote control and firmware updates. Other features include a built-in air filter and a self-cleaning mechanism.

Availability outside China uncertain

It is not yet clear whether the new Xiaomi air conditioners will reach other markets. While the company has recently been expanding its range of smart home appliances globally, central air conditioning systems are a specific segment requiring professional installation and local certifications. However, two other models of Xiaomi smart air conditioners are expected to be launched in Europe in the near future, which we reported on separately in July.
