Washing laundry is one of those household chores that most of us don’t particularly enjoy, so it makes sense to delegate as much of this routine as possible to a smart appliance. Xiaomi is gradually expanding its range of large home appliances in this regard and has now globally introduced the Mijia Top Load Washer 13kg. Unlike the model the company already sells in the Czech Republic, this is a top-loading washing machine without an integrated dryer, but with a spacious drum for large loads of laundry.

Thirteen kilograms for the whole household

The main attraction of the new product is its 13 kg capacity, allowing you to wash a load of laundry for the entire family in one go. Xiaomi highlights that the drum can accommodate not only regular clothes but also bulkier items such as duvets, bedding, or curtains, eliminating the need for multiple washes. For smaller and lightly soiled loads, there is a twenty-minute quick program, which saves time when you only need to refresh a few items.

Four-stage water flow and a set of programs

Washing is handled by a four-stage 3D water flow, which combines oscillating, tumbling, cyclonic, and cascading water movements. The goal is more even saturation of laundry and less wear on fabrics than with monotonous washing. The washing machine offers several specialized modes: delicate wash for sensitive fabrics with embroidery or lace, a bedding mode with automatic water level and spin speed adjustment, or a soak program for stubborn stains, whose duration and water flow intensity can be fine-tuned in the app.

Hygienic washing and fragrance care

Xiaomi also focuses on the health aspect of washing. According to the manufacturer, based on measurements by an independent laboratory under controlled conditions, the washing machine can remove up to 100% of dust mites in three steps and when washing in cold water. This mode targets allergy sufferers and sensitive skin, and is also suitable for children’s clothing. The appliance’s cleanliness is maintained by pressure drum cleaning, where water jets flush the inner and outer parts of the drum before washing itself, thus limiting bacterial growth. There is also a fragrance program designed to keep clothes smelling fresh longer.

Those who keep an eye on energy bills will appreciate the Eco Wash energy-saving mode, which reduces water and electricity consumption while maintaining washing performance. Xiaomi states specific savings on the product page, but without a clear explanation of what they relate to.

App control and smart features

As befits a product from the Mijia portfolio, the washing machine connects to the Xiaomi Home app. From your mobile, you can start it remotely, schedule washing using a 24-hour delayed start, or get program advice from the built-in AI, which learns your habits. The app also notifies you if you leave laundry in the drum for too long. The washing machine handles voice commands via Google Assistant, and thanks to OTA update support, Xiaomi can additionally add new features and washing programs.

Practical details worth mentioning include a balancing system with vibration damping, designed to reduce noise during washing and spinning, a child lock against accidental startup, and a soft-close lid that closes slowly to prevent pinched fingers. After washing, the machine gently fluffs the laundry to reduce wrinkles and make it easier to remove.

Will the washing machine come to the Czech Republic?

The Mijia Top Load Washer 13kg has appeared on Xiaomi’s global website, which for many other brand products has preceded their expansion into European markets. However, we have no certainty. Xiaomi has not yet revealed the price or specific availability date outside its home market, so its arrival in the Czech Republic remains more of a question than a confirmed plan.

Moreover, here we encounter a catch. Top-loading washing machines are significantly less common in Czech households than front-loading models, which can be tucked under a kitchen counter or stacked with a dryer. Xiaomi itself confirms this with its portfolio: in our country, it currently sells the Mijia Front Load Washer Dryer Pro 9, a front-loading steam washing machine with a dryer, which you can buy on Alza for 12 990 Kč. Furthermore, that model can also dry laundry directly, which the new thirteen-kilogram model does not offer.

The Mijia Top Load Washer 13kg thus makes the most sense for larger households that wash big loads and will appreciate the generous drum and smart mobile control. However, without a confirmed price and European availability, it’s difficult to assess what a good purchase it would be. If the washing machine truly makes its way here, it will have to convince customers accustomed to front-loading machines to welcome an appliance that opens from the top into their homes.
