You start your computer and Chrome pops up. Google is preparing a new feature for Windows users Home News Google is testing an option in Chrome for automatic browser launch at Windows startup Unlike regular startup applications, Chrome will open in the foreground as an active window The feature is disabled by default and currently only available in the Canary version Sdílejte: Adam Kurfürst Published: 14. 2. 2026 15:30 Advertisement If you are among the users who open a web browser as the first thing after turning on their computer, you might appreciate the upcoming Chrome feature. In the test version of Chrome Canary, an option for automatic browser launch at Windows startup has appeared. The new feature was highlighted by renowned insider Leopeva64 and later by the Chrome Story server. Chrome will pop up right after startup While Chrome has long supported being included in the list of startup applications in Windows, in such a case it runs only in the background. The new feature works differently – after logging into the system, the browser will open in the foreground as an active window, so you can immediately start browsing the web. Chrome will sporadically display an infobar when opening the browser to inform users of the new option to launch it when Windows starts. Clicking "Allow" enables the new option. AFAIK, the infobar will not reappear if it is dismissed via the "X" button:https://t.co/2map4t7lt7 pic.twitter.com/dMkVcPc978— Leopeva64 (@Leopeva64) February 7, 2026 After activating the feature, a message will appear: „Start browsing the internet instantly: Chrome will now launch at Windows startup.“ with an enable button. According to tester Leopeva64, Chrome will also occasionally display an information bar offering to turn on this feature. If you close it with the ‘x’ button, it should not reappear. Disabled by default Fortunately, Google keeps the feature disabled by default, so you don’t have to worry about Chrome automatically popping up every time you start your computer. The feature can be combined with other startup options – you can set whether to open a new tab, continue where you left off, or load specific web pages. When the new feature will reach the stable version of Chrome is not yet clear. It usually takes several weeks to months from its first appearance in a Canary build. Would you welcome automatic Chrome launch at computer startup?
