Google continues its campaign, during which it pushes its Gemini assistant into every application where it makes even a little sense. After the assistant in speakers and other services, email is now next. Gmail Live, introduced last month at the I/O conference, has entered testing on Android and iOS and promises that you can search your inbox with just your voice.

How Gmail Live works

Imagine Gemini Live, but tuned exclusively for emails. Instead of tedious manual searching, you ask a question aloud and the assistant responds. Tapping the Live icon opens a full-screen interface where Google offers sample queries like “what are my upcoming travel dates?” or “what’s new with my recent orders?”. The edge of the display lights up blue, your command is transcribed, and the answer is simultaneously read aloud and displayed on the screen, including the option to open the original email.

For those who don’t want to speak to their phone, a text-based alternative is also available. The Ask Gmail search field can accept natural language queries and returns AI overviews. In practice, these are two variations of the same idea — to find information in your inbox without having to manually sift through dozens of messages.

The catch is the price and language

Here comes the less pleasant part. Gmail Live will not be free. After testing concludes, it will only be available to subscribers of Google AI Pro and Ultra plans. In the Czech Republic, this practically means 549.99 CZK per month for the cheapest Pro variant, or 2,999.99 CZK for the lighter Ultra and 5,500 CZK for the full version. So, you will have to pay extra for voice search in your inbox.

The second question mark hangs over Czech language support. Google has long stated that Gemini features for Gmail are only available in selected languages, and experience with its other conversational tools shows that Czech localization is not usually a given at launch. Whether and when Gmail Live will speak Czech is not yet clear.
